Quotes

Kevin on Whitney:

“It's very easy to fall in love with Whitney.”

“I remember looking at Whitney and I said, “Oh man, this girl, really. She just really has it.”
This is not race. This is just about good, old-fashioned chemistry...boy-girl stuff.”

“At her essence, Whitney was a really good person.”

“I promised her two things -- that I would be right there with her, and she would not be bad.”

“Whitney and I had a lot in common.”

“A lot of leading men could have played my part, a lot of guys could have filled that role.
But you Whitney, I truly believe, were the only one who could have played Rachel Marron
at that time.”

“Whitney, if you could hear me now I would tell you, you weren't just good enough,
you were great.” “People didn't just like you, Whitney, they loved you.”

“I urge us all...to dry our tears, suspend our sorrow and perhaps our anger just long enough,
to remember the sweet miracle of Whitney”...“Sing your hearts out,
knowing that there is an angel in Heaven making God Himself wonder
how He made something so perfect.”

“Off you go Whitney, off you go. Escorted by an army of angels to your Heavenly Father,
when you sing before Him, don't you worry you'll be good enough.”

“That was big. It was like a...kind of a score to our life together a little bit...
People were suffering, the people closest to her were truly, truly suffering, and that song kind of...
it did kind of bring everything back together, but it was an absolute goodbye.”

“A couple of times over the years I called radio stations that were on her pretty hard,
asking the deejay to look at it in a different light. And at a couple of critical moments in her life,
I was asked by a close friend to write her a letter. And I did. I don’t know if she ever read them.”

“I was writing [my eulogy] on the plane, in the limo, in bed. It was important.
When I first walked into that church, it was electric, man.”

“I started [speaking] with the idea that sometimes
what you think life will be it won't be at all,
and about what was real between Whitney and me,
what we talked about—being in church when we were little,
both getting in trouble, about our not wanting to be preachers...
I wanted to impart a bit of the Whitney that I knew,
and maybe people could think about her in a different way.”

“I think about Whitney a little bit the way I think about the Kennedys.
I know there’s trouble, but I choose to think about a lot of other stuff.
The trouble is as real as the achievement, but it does not tarnish it.”

“You don't do that for everybody. And it was a pretty seminal moment for Whitney.”
“I took Whitney in my arms and kissed her, not as a black woman but as a beautiful woman.
That’s how I saw her.”

“She was a very important person to me and the world has connected us
in a way that we'll never not be.”

Whitney on Kevin:

“It was really nice, really a joy to work with Kevin,
and it had a lot to do with his personality.
He is down-to-earth; he doesn't trip. He's into his work.
And he's very kind, he's effective and he's considerate.”

“That was more exciting for me than the actual idea that he is this hunk
Kevin Costner. Yes, he's a hunk and he's sexy.
We all know that, but that's not what I was looking for.”

“We kind of made a deal. He loves to sing, he loves music.
Okay, Kevin -- I'll help you with your singing if you help me with the acting.”

“He was kind enough, and gracious enough, to ensure that I was comfortable,
being that it was my first film, he understood that, and he knows what it can be like
to be doing your first film so he was really kind and very... very kind!”

“How do I know I can act? I've never done it before!
But Kevin said, “You can do it, I know you can do it, I just know you can.”
I was like, “This man has more faith in me than I have faith in myself.”
Oh, he was a tremendous help...I mean, he made me feel so comfortable about acting,
and he made it look and seem so easy, you know,
and little bits and pieces he gave me helped me so much.
Kevin was so great.”

“What is Kevin Costner really like? Well, I can tell you this - I was blessed.
Kevin cares...Kevin really cares.”

“If I have one friend in Hollywood, it's Kevin.”

O c c u p a t i o n: Actor, director, producer and singer
Kevin was born in Lynwood, California, on January 18, 1955, the third child of Bill Costner, a ditch digger and ultimately an electric line servicer for Southern California Edison, and Sharon Costner. He has 2 older brothers (middle brother died at birth) and was raised Baptist. Costner was not academically inclined. Rather, he enjoyed sports, took piano lessons, wrote poetry and sang in the First Baptist Choir. He has stated that a viewing of the film How the West Was Won at the age of seven had "formed" his childhood. At 18, he built his own canoe and paddled his way down the rivers that Lewis & Clark followed to the Pacific. Despite his present height, he was only 5'2" when he graduated high school. Nonetheless, he still managed to be a basketball, football and baseball star. In 1973, he enrolled at California State University at Fullerton, where he majored in business. (more info here)

Whitney began singing in the choir at her church, The New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, as a young child and by the age of 15 was singing backing vocals professionally with her mother on Chaka Khan's 1978 hit, 'I'm Every Woman'. She went on to provide backing vocals for Lou Rawls, Jermaine Jackson and her own mother and worked briefly as a model, appearing on the cover of 'Seventeen' magazine in 1981.

Her debut album, 'Whitney Houston', was released in 1985 and became the biggest-selling album by a debut artist. Several hit singles, including 'Saving All My Love For You', 'How Will I Know', 'You Give Good Love', and 'The Greatest Love of All', were released from the album, setting her up for a Beatles-beating seven consecutive US number ones. The album itself sold 3 million copies in its first year in the US and went on to sell 25 million worldwide, winning her the first of her six Grammies. (more info here)

A Glimpse Into Two Worlds: Kevney
written by SaffaGirl

God gave Whitney a glimpse of what her life would be like had she married someone with Kevin's character. He gave her a glimpse of what it would be like to be loved unconditionally, a glimpse of what it is like to be respected by a man, a glimpse of what it is like to be treated like a lady, a glimpse of what it is like to be given compliments, a glimpse of what it is like to be accepted for who you are. I firmly believe that Kevin had discernment when he saw the script of the Bodyguard, and he knew in his heart of hearts that Whitney should be his leading lady, but at the same time he could not understand why. He could have sat on his own, questioning God as to why he had the strong urge to have her act alongside of him - he went against all odds to have her, even decided to wait ONE WHOLE YEAR for her to complete her tour. The glimpse she saw about Kevin she might have never experienced it before with any other man that she might have been in a relationship with, and maybe just maybe she did not know how to embrace such love and respect; recalling she was already in a relationship with the other person. She had a glimpse of what it is like to be transparent with Kevin and to see his transparency as well, a glimpse of showing her vulnerable side yet being told "it is okay".

Kevin was already in a marriage when he strongly wanted her to act with him, she had already entered and seen the glimpse of the world she was about to enter. Two years later he divorces, a year after the Bodyguard she gives birth to a little girl (stand corrected with her daughter's birth year) - was this the world she had to share with Kevin maybe, who knows - did he ever share with her that he wanted her in his world, I cannot say - yet to this day he has hidden her in the corner of his heart where in his quiet moments he can reflect on much.

On the flip side of the same coin, she has a glimpse of how a man can disrespect her (the other person), a glimpse of verbal abuse, a glimpse of emotional abuse, a glimpse of being put through every psychological abuse that any human could have experienced. A glimpse of never been told she is beautiful, a glimpse of never been told she is talented etc. she gave love but did not receive love, she gave respect but did not receive respect, she showed her transparent side but did not receive the same, she showed her vulnerability but was never protected from harm. I believe this person only stepped into her life to be a destructive force, to rob her of her God given talent, rob her of her wealth, her looks, her character and all that needed to be stripped from her life, and once the deed was done walk away and leave her to the wolves to complete that which was started.

One coin, yet a glimpse into two different worlds - one man sent to bless her (Kevin), the other enters to be a curse (the other person).

MS. WHITNEY ELIZABETH HOUSTON'S CHANGE OF ADDRESS

Please be advised that I have moved, I received a call from God, the Chief Architect the other day, and He informed me that my new home was complete.

You all knew that I had been working on my new residence, sending up my timber, packing up and getting ready to go. I know that my house needed some finishing touches and that the Chief Carpenter, Jesus Christ had to inspect it and give me the final approval. On Saturday, February 11, 2012 around 3:55pm He let me know that my home was complete and that it was ok to move in. So He told me to go ahead and change my address.

Well, my new home is finished and what a sight it is to behold. It is located on an exclusive estate area behind a beautiful pearly gate. It is just over the other side of serene celestial shore. Of course, you know the streets are paved with gold and every day is Sunday, just like you've been told. Trees with twelve manners of fruit grace my garden here, and I can walk and talk with my Master with not a worry or care.

I lived in a home built by man, for only a short time, but my new home is so much better than any other place I've ever lived. There is peace here, joy, happiness, no pain, no heartaches, no strife or discontentment, only sweet serenity. I can dine at the Master's bountiful table and listen to a Heavenly choir and best of all, my Heavenly Father is here...in all His Glory.

Oh yes, I have my own designer here who has fitted me with my very own white robe and wings. I could go on and on about my new home, but instead, I'm going to pray that you get to move here yourself one day. Before I go, let me give you my new address:

Whitney Elizabeth Houston.

1963 Heavenly Way.

Godstown, Heaven

not sure about the suggestion since we have so many titles to get through yet and I'd like to get through those first and then once when we have 2 or 3 titles left then we can think of new ones.

Kind Suggestion: How about the next thread be named "My Love Is Your Love"
I hope you are feeling better. I've got a scratchy throat myself and am trying to keep a cold away. The fam heads to New Orleans in four days!

BTW, shippers. I was thinking about the "Memories of The Bodyguard" documentary. It was put on the 2004 version of the film's DVD, I believe. My question is: why celebrate a film's 14th anniversary at all? Did they do it to make a quick buck? Was there material they wanted/needed to release?

I started to wonder the other day if KC didn't hatch that documentary as a way to tell Whitney to "hang in there" through her hard times? 2004 is around the time that he said he wrote the letters 7 or 8 years ago. That would date back to 2004 or 2005, and perhaps the timing of the DVD. I'm just randomly speculating, but if KC was one of the film's producers and had so much persuasive influence on the timing of production (delaying it for a year) editing the film (deleting scenes) and casting (we know that story), then maybe he could also have come up with a reason to talk the director, etc., into a documentary of making the film.

I could be way off base. Anyone with any other suggestions.

Also, The Wall Street Journal had a feature story about "The Weird World of Fan Fiction," on Friday. The parts I read did not mention Kevney, but it was revealing. The fanfiction genre is far older and more respected than I thought.

Maybe when I get more time, I'll try either an extended convo or a fanfic for Frank and Rachel.

I've heard on LSA that it was true and something makes me believe that it is. I wonder where Whitney was during the Scotland scandal LOL

Thankls for asking about me. I feel so so. I had a tiring day. all of a suuden on my way home earlier I felt dizzying sick to the stomach. Not as bad now. Alot is going around which will ensure I pick up some more Lysol spray tomorrow.

As for the release, WB was releasing it on DVD and since it was one of the most successful movies in history and for the studio they wanted to give it some more gusto. Memories of the BG was a good feature. Kevin was one of the producers and had alot invested in that movie, so no surprises there.

What year was that Scotland scandal? I think I recall it was shortly after he married.

Anyway, Kevin is a trip. As the three stooges would say "he's a bad boy"

Here is a link where his former girlfriend defends him. Now this supposedly happened while he was on his honeymoon.

Here is the article about the settlement- my thoughts he shoul dnot have settled, but sometimes it happens.

Oh yes fanfiction has been around a long time. I first discovered it back in 1998/1999 when I became hooked on The X-Files. At that time, i think, it had the most fanfic on the net. Now its Harry Potter I believe.

That would be sweet! Ive been suffering from withdrawal from your convos. Or, a Frank/Rachel convo would be just as nice.

Well, stay healthy. Get rest, keep up with your doctor, eat right and remember that drinking water is helpful. Not a magical natural cure-all, but so many problems can be averted if you avoid dehydration!

In the last couple of years, I re-discovered the fanfic "Wide Sargasso Sea," after becoming addicted to the 2006 BBC production of "Jane Eyre," with Maggie Smith's son, Toby Stephens. BTW, he's THE MOST PERFECT Mr. Rochester known in film. And the hottest. He is to Mr. Rochester what Colin Firth is to Mr. Darcy. Anyway, with "Wide Sargasso Sea," I remember seeing a snippet of the earlier film version of it way back when I was young. The images riveted me, but I didn't know what I was watching. I also remember doing laundry or some chore in the basement of the house where we lived, and seeing a few discarded pages torn out of a comic book. It depicted a mistreated young orphan girl who gets sent off to a boarding school and warmly greets a woman named "Bessie" years later. Again, the story riveted me, and little did I know that I was being drawn into one of the most celebrated pieces of literature known to mankind. I didn't read Jane Eyre properly until a few years later.

But yes, fanfiction is drawing all sorts of fans. What the Journal article didn't deal with was the fact that present day established and respected authors write fanfic, like P.D. James with "Death Comes to Pemberley."

Have you now? LOL. Well, you might like to know that I've been working on a Kevney convo. One where I return to my roots and maintain a simple phone interaction, instead of some elaborate liaison in an exotic locale. Maybe in a future one I'll ditch logic altogether, forget the fact that Whitney died and send her and KC off to a fabulous safari/treasure diving vacation in Africa.

But I want to do a Frank & Rachel convo before long. I'll call it ... wait and see!!
It's just past midnight where I am now, though, so I have to rule out posting one now.

Just noticing the OP again now with the new thread. Love all the Kevney pics though I don't like the 'letters', I think they're corny and unnecessary but that's just me.

I do wonder what Kevin would think about all this speculation about him and Whitney. You see it in all his interviews that the interviewers are fishing for information. He doesn't give it to them but he has given us some interesting cryptic statements over the years!

Thank you. I am doing some of that. water is a favorite I just have to keep it that way.

I agree with Raven- a Frank/Rachel story would be hot stuff. Those two knew how to go at it. Just remember I'm here for you.

Oh yes GobSmacked ...please, please, please! I think the vast majority of us are suffering from your convo withdrawels! The Ali AfterParty one is much anticipated, and as for Kevin/Whitney going off on a safari/treasure hunt//diving adventure fanfic ... well I can't think of anything we'd love more ... other than it being their honeymoon, that is! Afterall ... we ARE talking about "fiction", right?!?!?! No pressure, though! Have a great weekend ladies ... and oh, GobSmacked ... I've got quite a few pics of KC on his Mozambique treasure hunting vacation last week if that'll help inspire you!
