Welcome to Storybrooke, Maine, a small town that probably won't show up on your GPS, but it's a magical place to visit. Reality and myth merged after Emma broke Regina's curse, which had deprived the fairy tale characters of their memories and trapped them in our modern world. When they finally regained their identities, our heroes were dismayed to discover that they weren't transported back to Fairy Tale Land. To make matters worse, Rumplestiltskin - aka Mr. Gold - decided to escalate his power struggle with Regina by introducing magic into the town. But this is our world, and magic always has a tendency to yield unfathomable consequences.

The Storybrooke residents do not know what Elsa has in store for them. Back in the past, in Elsa's kingdom of Arendelle, we will discover what happened to her, her sister Anna and Kristoff, and how and why Elsa became a prisoner of Rumplestiltskin. And now that Emma has brought back Robin Hood's wife, Marian, and possibly sparked the end of Regina's relationship with him, will she return to her old, evil ways and do everything in her power to get even? And newlyweds Belle and Rumplestiltskin continue to be deeply in love with each other. But Rumple is hiding a secret from Belle -- one that, if found out, could destroy their happiness - he continues to be the master of the dagger that calls upon him to be the Dark One. Can Emma and Hook commit to one another, and can these two damaged people take their love to the next level? Mary Margaret and David have a new baby, Prince Neal, and are looking forward to raising him into a proud, brave and loving adult. But they are still sad that they were not able to do this with Emma, instead helping her escape the curse when she was first born and not meeting her again until she was 28 years old. Henry is very happy to have both of his mothers back in Storybrooke. But with biological mom Emma and paternal grandfather Rumplestiltskin's blood running through his veins, he will be tested by both the light and the darkness. Finally, Will Scarlet (Michael Socha, "Once Upon a Time in Wonderland"), a former member of Robin Hood's band of Merry Men, has traveled across many lands to make his way to Storybrooke. He finds himself intertwined in the goings-on in town for the first time as his mysterious past pushes him to an unknown future.

Can The Author grant the villains a happy ending? That question will be answered in what co-creator Edward Kitsis calls a "two-hour concept episode" that will include pretty much everybody in Storybrooke. Also, Emma and Hook's relationship will be explored further, and it will become clear where Regina and Robin Hood stand. But where is our horned friend Maleficent in all this? Hoping for a reunion with her long-lost daughter Lily, who will make an appearance as well. By the end of the two hours, one person will be gone forever (as much as they can be on this show), and everyone will be left this season with a big "change in condition" that will carry over into next season.
'Once Upon a Time' showrunners spill 'Frozen' secrets (no Olaf!) EW: I’ve avoided asking you specific plot questions because I know that’s the area you don’t want to get into. But is there anything you’re comfortable to tease overall about how the Frozen storyline works into the rest of the show? I’m worried that last night’s Once Upon a Time was the beginning of the end for “good” Emma. Will the Author being in Storybrooke distract her from hating on her parents, or is she guaranteed to go dark dark? –Jamie That, I reckon, is the million-dollar question as the final episodes play out. As Colin O’Donoghue reminds, “The second half of this season is about the struggles that heroes and villains each have. And what great about the show is it’s never cut and dry. Is Once Upon a Time actually considering a Belle/Hook pairing or are they just keeping the two busy, while Rumple and Emma are busy with the Queens of Darkness? —Linda No, no, no. They’re not hinting at a Belle/Hook pairing. Belle and Will Scarlett, however, may be a different story, as you’ll see teased this Sunday. "This back half is a lot about what makes a hero and what makes a villain and it's about trying to realize our happy endings," Kitsis revealed. "The [storylines] that we were teasing in the first half [of season four] with the book and the author is really going to be in this front and center of this second half. We've learned that there's a fine line between good and evil, so we had to ask it: With the Queens of Darkness headed to town, is there a possibility that Emma could be swayed to use her powers as a villain? Anything on Once Upon a Time’s Regina?? — HeySomeOtherMe Finding the Author’s library was a big step towards achieving her happy ending, but there are still bumps in the road ahead. “This is a quest that has been quite difficult for Regina,” Lana Parrilla tells me. “With all the research she’s done thus far and Operation Mongoose, she keeps hitting dead end after dead end. She’s lost some faith in ever finding this author, but she’s still not going to give up. A lot of that positive reenforcement comes from Henry in being the heart of the truest believer, who keeps her afloat and keeps encouraging her to not give up. He plays a huge part in finding clues. As cocreator Eddy Kitsis revealed to Matt Mitovich at the New York Comic-Con panel this past weekend, Regina and Henry’s “Operation Mongoose is going to be a rather big story for the year. Whereas we are splitting seasons in half, this is a story that will transcend both halves.”

As excited as I am for Once Upon a Time‘s Frozen storyline, I’m curious as to how The Knave (played by Michael Socha) is going to fit in in Storybrooke. Know anything about that? – Sarah Do I! Just seconds before publishing this week’s Inside Line, I got off the horn with Once creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis, the former of which said that The Knave’s “background as Will Scarlett, who was one of the Merry Men and a thief, comes into play very early.” Kitsis then added that for Wonderland fans, “We will be explaining why he’s in town. I can also say that he fits rather nicely into Storybrooke, and his introduction is a really fun one.”
I am loving that Hook and Emma finally kissed in the Once Upon a Time finale! Any hints about how Emma now views him/their relationship? –Liz I can’t speak for the fictional character of Emma, but Jennifer Morrison, the actress tells TVLine. “They’ve both been through similar things, they’re both survivors and they’ve both had to fight in order to literally just live. There’s also something in them where they’ll both go to great lengths to protect the people they care about — and sometimes they’ll do really bad things to do that, but they both have really good hearts, so I think they see a lot of themselves in each other.” Emma is also seeing impressive changes in the pirate. “This season in particular, because Hook has really fought for Emma to be true to herself and be the most powerful version of herself, he’s earned a tremendous amount of trust from her, and that’s what really makes it organic for Emma to feel vulnerable with him,” Morrison notes. “I know that in my own life, I have a strong reaction to people who empower me and say, ‘You should be yourself, even if it means making some mistakes.’ So the fact that he does that, and isn’t at all put off by that, makes it a good place to start a relationship.” | MattM/TVLine

I always feel kind of sorry for Adam and Eddy when we get a promo that doesn't match up with the narrative in any way, shape, or form, but then I remember that this whole thing is really just a business model, and I shouldn't take promotional material seriously.

But it did work, though, didn't it? Look at the premiere numbers. They drew in a lot of viewers for Frozen, and almost all of them left by the mid-season premiere (which matched up quite well with the 3B finale). The influx was totally Frozen related, thanks in part to their marketing ploy.

I used to watch a show on ABC called Brothers and Sisters. For one two hour special, the network had the nerve to heavily promote that "Someone. Will. Die" in all commercials for the episode.
No one died.
They stretched someone having a heart attack and very briefly flatlining to a character death. And before the episode aired we basically knew it wasn't going to happen because the actors who all had to do interviews for this two-hour episode rolled their eyes and sort of scoffed when asked about the "character death". They weren't going to go along with ABC's bs.
I think subtext is a really important part of this show. There's a ton of it, but at the end of the day, the people who are going to look for it are the ones who are interested in the character or ship that ties directly to said subtext. I actually notice it a LOT when we're having discussions/debates about our personal faves in this thread--some of us see things that others don't, and it's not because those things aren't real; it's because we don't have an investment in seeing things from several different characters' points of view.
Honestly, this is one of the reasons I get upset when some fans mention they only watched the scenes they wanted to watch, or ignored the character interactions they didn't like. You miss so much when you watch the show like that. Moreover, these characters often parallel each other and lend gravity to each other's storylines. You can learn a lot about Snow by watching Regina's scenes, and vice versa. Same goes for Hook and Rumple, Belle and Robin, Emma and Snow, etc.

I mean I'm not ignoring the awful things Rumple is doing. He deserves to suffer and be punished and I hope he does as part of his redemption. But there are very clear indicators in the episodes and even interviews that seem to show Rumbelle building up to something bigger this finale. I hope it's done well and is fitting for what has been happening this season.
I just watched the second clip, and a YT comment pointed out could Regina indirectly push Emma further down the dark path? Regina is adamant in not letting Emma fall, but all this talk of fate.... and they haven't gotten to Zelena yet.
Zalena. Who was partly responsible for Neal's death. Who killed Marian as well.
Anyone think this could be a possibility? Plus, we know that Emma and Lily's reunion isn't gonna be all rainbows either

Urgh, I'm so annoyed with the promotion. The writers are very careful not to "queer bait" and the PR throws that all out the window. I think shipping SQ is awesome if it makes someone happy. I appreciate it in a very non canon way but Regina saying "I need you" is wildly out of context. It's like when CS use the "I'd pick you" quote out of context from Season 2.
Adam tweeted the script tease about the road trip ... that is what they should have used for promotion. What OnceABC dd today is just a grab for viewers and I don't like that kind of thing.
Urgh, I'm so annoyed with the promotion. The writers are very careful not to "queer bait" and the PR throws that all out the window. I think shipping SQ is awesome if it makes someone happy. I appreciate it in a very non canon way but Regina saying "I need you" is wildly out of context. It's like when CS use the "I'd pick you" quote out of context from Season 2.
Adam tweeted the script tease about the road trip ... that is what they should have used for promotion. What OnceABC dd today is just a grab for viewers and I don't like that kind of thing.
It's not like it matters,lol. This entire trip is to get Regina her true love back. If SQ's want to claim that it's queerbaiting when it's clearly not so be it. Sure the I need you will make them click the link but the context of the "I need you" is not in any way shape or form queerbaiting because Regina says I don't know New York. She very clearly says why she needs Emma.

From him being responsible for Emma going dark, using Hook as a puppet, manipulating Belle, using his own grandson as a means to an end, blackmailing Regina with the death of her true love, teaming up with the woman that murdered her son, to everything he did in 4A. If he gets a happy ending at the end of this season after all of it than I'm going to have to question the writers because that's a very bad message to send.
If you use people to your every whim, manipulate, lie, and and hurt you can get a happy ending at the end of all of that. Very very bad message.
I think when it comes to promotional stuff they know that putting money into stuff like that really isn't going to gain them viewers they have the viewers they have after 4 years they are not going to gain much wether they get new promotional stuff or not so they put that money else where. As for Frozen they new how popular it was and that it would give them a temperary flux in ratings if they promote it there is a logic to it because the point of promotional stuff isn't for the fans they have but for the viewers that they don't.
As for Rumbelle I don't really see much going to happen with them I have seen no indication that belle is even moving back towards rumple so unless their is some huge shift then I don't expect anything from them until next season maybe at this point I don't see how rumple can be redeemed or even if he wants to. I think most of what is coming will focus on emma and anything connected to her

S2 cast pics were BEAUTIFUL! We could not have asked for better - they were perfect.
Then came S3 cast pics. Wth happened???
I mean somehow they managed to make almost half of this stunning cast look like crap. I remember looking at Charming's photo and thinking it must have taken someone very determined to make Josh Dallas of all people look bad.
I wonder if those images were really bad because of a poorly executed concept A&E had and as a result ABC took away their cast photo budget.

But it's not queerbaiting. If anything I would define it as click-baiting, to get people to click the link to watch the sneak peek and get the revenue. You know? It would be queerbaiting if the sneak peek ended at her saying "I need you" but it didn't. It very specifically talked about why Regina needs Emma. It was not queerbaiting.
I think I agree with Radames on this one. The line alone "I need you" is there just for fan service (and the whole media promotion surely helped to that), but when you watch the clip you can see even from Lana's voice tone what she means. And then of course Regina goes on to explain it herself. But people are going to see it the way they want to see it anyway. So, throughout the course of the entire rest of the show, Regina will always going to be the one who said "(Emma) I need you".
