New York Yankees #26: Bye Bye Friend, RIP Cory
WELCOME to the New York Yankees Thread! ~Golden Rule~ Don't Bash The Yankees ~Story of the Thread~ This thread dates back to the 2001 World Series. Before we lost to the Arizona Diamondback - as we watched the Playoffs, DJ's awesome plays included - Yankee fans gathered in the old Request thread to request a Yankee board (how pretentious, huh? ). Of course, we didn't have enough votes to get one so we decided to start our own thread here in the Sports Board. 26 World Championships? We'll try to do better next century. The thing is though, we love them nonetheless... ~Past Threads~ NY Yankees #8 - Once A Yankee, Always A Yankee New York Yankees #9- Time to go fishing ... So, who is everyone rooting for of the teams who are left?
I'm rooting for the AL all the way. The A's are my second favorite team in baseball anyway, but they're looking not-quite-as-likely right now. I'd be okay with the Tigers winning it all, I guess. At least then we'd have lost to the World Champs. __________________

Thanks for the new thread.
I am rooting for no one. It will...hurt like nothing else if the Mets win. __________________

Hello, guys!
I'm still down over Cory. But anyway, i have to say that right now, I'm rooting for nobody. I don't feel anything, if the Yanks aren't in it I can't get involved. I have no eggs in the basket, baseball's out until next Spring. I tried watching the game today but there was nothing there. Ah. Guess I'll be watching lots of movies and studying. __________________

Hopefully, next year the Yankees will wear the black arm band in memory of Cory. He wasn't family for very long, but he was family -- you have to honor family.
I haven't been able to watch any of either CS, but my primary interest at this point is really just rooting against Barry Zito. I'm sincerely hoping the As win G4, so he can get rocked again in G5. The worse he looks, especially in big game situations, the less likely it is we enter the SoNotWorthIt Zito Sweepstakes... Other than that, I guess I wouldn't mind the Mets winning the WS. Not just because of Willie and Duque, but because I want them to take as many of the bandwagon fans as possible. I want to be able to go the Stadium again and not deal with some moron in front of me booing fly-outs in the first inning or some dude in the seats next to me, trying to educate anyone who'll listen as to why Mike Mussina has been a bust (no rings!!11). Those types are just Mets fans waiting to be unfettered and they deserve to be unfettered. |

Bianca, I hope that they wear the arm bands, too. In fact, I will be highly disappointed in them as a team if they don't. And welcome back.
Nikki, thanks for the new thread. Honestly, I will admit, I really like the Mets. I'm from New York and they're a NY team, so I don't see why I can't like both of them. Plus, they're a young, hard-playing team with a lot of heart, and I like most of the guys. Would I have rooted for them if they were playing the Yanks? No. But now that the Yanks are out of it, I'd like to see them win, especially because of how much I like Willie, David Wright, and, most especially, El Duque. Plus, the NL has to win a least once in awhile. __________________

I really like the Mets too (except for Pedro, I suppose). Wright is a lot of fun to watch, he's gonna be a star. Plus Willie and Duque. It's just Mets fans that I dislike quite a bit, that little brother complex they seem to have. If they could just stop with the Reyes is better than Jeter, etc, I'd be just fine with them. The constant "we're better than you" this year has just been annoying
Sigh, I hate the offseason. I wasn't ready for it yet. __________________

The Reyes is better than Jeter stuff is so ridiculously absurd, I just pay it no mind at this point. It's either driven by blind hate or people naively buying into the "Overrated!" stuff so much that they no longer are able to objectively realize how good his consistent offensive production is from a SS. Barring injury, he will be a true, deserving first ballot HOFer. It's not debatable when stats (projected or even current) are invoked -- he's better than Reyes until Reyes improves even more and does it over a decade plus.
I missed that Hideki Matsui said he will (try to) learn 1B if the Yankees want him to this week. Godzilla is truly a stand-up dude. Thanks, Chrissy. |

You're welcome, guys.
imaginary - This year I prepared myself emotionally for the loss, but I was really UNprepared for the Off Season. Sometimes I have that feeling of haste when doing something because the game will start in a few hours. It's so horrible to realize the game WILL start, just without your team. Awww, Matsui is quickly becoming my favorite Yankee. Jason should be looking over his shoulder BIG TIME! __________________
