So either: Connie is staying (highly unlikely) or the 2nd part of season 5 is going to suddenly, jarringly, swing back towards the other characters, with Juliette and her family receiving as much focus as Rayna did in the first part of the season. Are they expecting that all of the other fans will forget how unsatisfying 5A was because 5B is great for them, and there is sunshine and puppies for all??

It's the worst possible way to handle it.
With regard to Rayna - IF she dies I can only think that Connie made it clear that she was not open to returning and wanted her character written off permanently. Otherwise they could have gone with her being away on tour or whatever for a while.
I get that they wanted to make a big story out of Rayna going but I don't think they could have got this more wrong if they tried !!
Like we've all said with this insane imbalance towards Rayna and Maddie they have pissed off all the other fan bases and a lot of the neutrals . Who knows if those fans will come back ? Why would they if Maddie is still front and central in every episode.
And they will have devastated the Deyna fans even more by giving them episodes like 507 and 502 and all the other Deyna loving scenes. If Deyna were my favourite couple I would be so pissed that they had done that only to snatch it all away so finally.
They should have eased off on the Rayna screentime gradually and built up the other stories more. And by other stories I do not mean Maddie. I really don't know where they can go from here.
Wonder if all the writers are sat in a room now thinking - **** we really messed that one up
