Love the title!
I'll just say that I think we're so used to being disappointed that we might jump to the conclusion that S5 will be more of the same. That's kind of unfair to the writers. We have to get used to a different style of writing and they have to get their feet wet with these established characters. I'd much rather see "boring" storylines that are well-thought out and well-acted than hacked ones. My daughter randomly started watching My So-Called Life yesterday. I'd forgotten it was produced by Ed and Marshall and barely remembered anything about the show but as we were watching it, I really appreciated how well it had been written and produced. Markedly different from this last season of Nashville, with its 45 second scenes and character personalities flip-flopping to suit the overly dramatic plot. Juliette's plane crash even affecting Rayna AT ALL is a step in the right direction. Scarlett and Maddie interacting is a step in the right direction. |

My sentiment exactly. I mean, when we check the sides, they're hardly anything Earth-shattering. But in a way that's also pretty good because there's nothing like the bizarro storylines of season four. There's no Avery sleeping with Layla. There's no Maddie betraying her father and ruining his reputation. There's no Gunnar boning Autumn the very next episode after he broke up with Scarlett after having been together for a grand total of one episode after a stall of three years.
Yes, please, I'll take it. __________________

Aside from Juliette being in a wheelchair I think it all sounds great actually. I will hold off on judging storylines, since we know so little at this point, but Rayna and Juliette regularly interacting, Deacon being at H65, Scarlett having personal conversations with Rayna and Maddie at their house, Rayna and Deacon working on music together... It sounds like a dream. Reading these sides it to me seems like a completely different show, but in a good way. People are having actual conversations, the focus is on the music... hell, people even remember that Rayna Jaymes is a country megastar, something they seemed to have forgotten the last two seasons.
It comes off as realistic. Will couples still have issues and drama? Sure. But now they have mature conversations about it and deal with it instead of breaking up left and right, going for the bottle, throwing snowglobes or diving into bed with the first person that comes along. |

One thing in the sides that really bothered me was Maddie going back to calling her father "Deacon" and not Dad. Don't know where that is going, but I know I don't like it right now. She owes her father respect! Especially considering what she put him through last season. Does she not have any affection for him anymore?
But one thing I liked was Deacon's song and the cute whimsical verse about when they first met that he sang for Rayna trying to tease her when she arrived home. I hope we gets LOTS of that....lots of sweet humor. I remember one scene during S4b at Deacon's house on the lake right after Deacon and Rayna got back together and she said something about being right and Deacon told her to "shut-up" in a sexy cute way as he kissed her. Love, Love, Loved it. That's what happy couples do. It keeps them on their toes. And I am wondering who the new writers are. Does anyone know? Did any of the old writers move to CMT to continue writing for the show? I'm very curious. While I have liked what I've read in the sides, I'm still a little gun-shy, I guess. Some of the dialogue sounds like parts of other seasons of the show. |

tftnt As for Maddie calling Deacon by his name in the side, who knows if that will even happen. And I think Daphne called Deacon her father in another side. Like everything I've seen, but who knows how it will come out on the screen. I find that there is a lot to be positive about.

I agree with Telepath. We need to stay positive which I know is extremely hard after all the abuse we have been through with the previous writing team. I actually went out and purchased the sides and have to admit I'm feeling better because I can read them and interpret them myself instead of relying on others interpretations. As we have seen so many times, we all see things in so many different ways depending on our own internal lens.
If this were the previous writing team, I would be 100% convinced that after pining for Kevin for almost an entire season and asking Kevin to give him another chance, that after one episode and only three weeks Will would do a complete 180 and cheat on Kevin for no real reason whatsoever except that it was the writers' idea of DRAMA!! To hell with character or plot or basic logic. However, I am going to give these writers a fighting chance and believe that this attraction to someone else will result in a grown up conversation between W/K about their relationship and how they are both in different places. Will is extremely immature when it comes to relationships and Kevin is far more experienced. I'm hopeful that his relationship with Kevin will lead to character growth and maturity for Will. It seems like the next logical step with him at least on the emotional side of the house. Still interested to see where they take his career. I guess this is my long winded way of saying that I'm consciously changing my expectations and not going directly to pessimism. Hard...so very hard |

I don't think it's actually 6 inches But she's definitely started looking not quite so little next to Lennon over the past few months
