Master storytellers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz ("Lost," "Tron: Legacy") invite everyone to join Emma Swan, Snow White, Prince Charming, Rumplestiltskin, Hook and the Evil Queen Regina as they travel through a portal on the Jolly Roger in an effort to reach Neverland and rescue Henry.

Welcome to Storybrooke, Maine, a small town that probably won't show up on your GPS, but it's a magical place to visit. Reality and myth merged after Emma broke Regina's curse, which had deprived the fairytale characters of their memories and trapped them in our modern world. When they finally regained their identities, our heroes were dismayed to discover that they weren't transported back to Fairy Tale Land. To make matters worse, Rumplestiltskin - aka Mr. Gold - decided to escalate his power struggle with Regina by introducing magic into the town. But this is our world, and magic always has a tendency to yield unfathomable consequences.

And they all lived happily ever after... Hardly!

All is not well back in the Enchanted Forest when Hook comes calling on Emma in New York City in an attempt to jog her memory so that she can once again help her fairy tale family and friends out of a desperate situation. Everyone she holds dear is in danger as a new foe emerges - the Wicked Witch of the West (Rebecca Mader, "Lost"). Hook now must enlist Emma in an epic struggle that spans worlds: with the highest stakes possible - the fate of her family. No one remembers how they were transported back or the past year they had spent back in Fairy Tale Land. But someone in town is responsible for this curse, and all clues point to the Wicked Witch of the West, whose agenda in our world is a mystery. In an attempt to break the curse, new fairytale characters will be revealed and old acquaintances will be revisited. But not everyone can be trusted. X

“The Jolly Roger” – Ariel returns to Storybrooke and pleads with Hook to help her find Prince Eric, who never returned to the town when the new curse was invoked. Emma agrees to let Regina teach her how to use magic so that she can help defeat Zelena, and Mary Margaret and David try to prove that they can be just as much fun as Hook is with Henry -- who thinks they are boring. Meanwhile, in Fairy Tale Land during the past year, an angry Ariel confronts Hook over her missing Prince Eric, who she assumes was kidnapped and possibly killed by the swarthy pirate. But when Hook confesses that the Jolly Roger has been stolen and Eric is most likely the thief’s prisoner, Ariel unknowingly provides him with a clue as to who the culprit is, and Hook – with Ariel in tow - goes off in search of his ship.

  You will get to see him interacting a bit with Blackbeard, which I think people will be looking forward to, and also a bit with Ariel. He'll be up to shenanigans with everyone.

  He might. You might see more of a bit of their past and see some of the interaction between Hook and Smee. You'll be up to seeing more swashbuckling pirate action.LA Times
• New heroes: Speaking of Belle, we'll get to see more iconography from Disney's Beauty and the Beast film with the introduction of Lumiere (Henri Lubatti), as well as the increased evolution of Belle herself. "What we loved about the character is that she's a bookworm who wanted to actually experience adventure," Kitsis says. "This year you're going to start seeing her come into her own by using her brain. She's going to be a hero that will reach for a book or use her intelligence more than a sword."

  As already hinted, Hook will have a tough time getting back in Emma’s good graces, especially given how their first NYC “reunion” went. “She will be very wary” of this stranger, cocreator Eddy Kitsis previews. “I mean, if someone knocked on your door wearing leather and guyliner and tried to kiss you…? He’s lucky he didn’t get a baseball hat to the head!” Adds Adam Horowitz: “Emma’s a tough cookie when she has her memories. So without them, it’s not going to an easy road for him.”

  If you’re in your mid-30s to early 40s and look like a young Richard Schiff, call your agent now. An Episode 18 flashback will introduce us to Prince Leopold aka the man who will one day be Snow White’s father. The younger Leo is described as grounded, humble and not afraid to open his heart, coveting more from marriage than just a political arrangement. Interestingly, I hear that Rena Sofer will not reprise her role as Ava for this episode. Hmm. Source

  Adam Horowitz: That is an excellent question. Why and how?
  Edward Kitsis: What's he doing back? What the hell is going on?
  Horowitz: We're answering your question with more questions. It's not why Hook, but how Hook and when Hook? What does it mean? That's something that we get to, again, pretty quickly.
• Please tell me any scoop for Hook on Once Upon a Time. –Harini
  This can’t bode well for our resident swashbuckler: As we speak, the show is casting the one-episode role of Blackbeard, a cut-throat pirate if there ever was one.
• How different is this Emma from the one we've known?
  Kitsis: It was an important thing. Emma, as a character, we love her. She has some new memories, but that didn't ruin her upbringing. She still grew up tough, she still grew up with a wall. It was her against the world and what we'll see is with these new memories it's now her and Henry against the world. She still is the same person, but we're going to really explore what her life is like in Episode 12 called "New York City Serenade." Source
• What's the deal with Robin Hood and Regina on Once Upon a Time? — Maggie
  NATALIE: As of two weeks ago when I was on set, Lana Parrilla told me nothing had come up in scripts between the two of them, but she expected it to happen toward the end of the season — though it might not be as easy as we'd all hope. "She's closed her heart off to any romance," Parrilla says. "She doesn't look at anyone with lust or desire. But I do hope that Regina opens her heart again to love. It's been many, many years. As much as she loves Henry, he can only fill that void for so long before he moves on and has a life of his own separate from her." Do you want to see Regina and Robin Hood together? Source
• Any chance for a reconciliation between Neal and Rumple on Once Upon a Time? — Tracy
  NATALIE: Now that Neal has discovered the truth about his lineage, it will open the door for father and son to finally have a relationship. "It provides an opportunity for Neal to see his father as someone who carried a burden for hundreds of years because he was hurt or embarrassed about Pan being his father," Michael Raymond-James says. "It really allows him to see his dad in a new light. That's a revelatory moment for Neal." Source
• Question: Can you offer up any clues on the location/setting for the second half of Once Upon a Time Season 3 (premiering March 9)? Will it take place entirely in Storybrooke, or will there be trips to another never-before-seen world? — abz
  Ausiello: Better than clues, we have cold, hard facts. More akin to Season 1′s storytelling, “The second half [of Season 3] will take place between Storybrooke and the Enchanted Forest,” series cocreator Eddy Kitsis told Matt Mitovich. In other words, EP Adam Horowitz underscored, “It’s not a ‘journey to another land’ paradigm” à la the Neverland arc concluding Dec. 15. “We always have the ability and the desire to dip into other lands, which it’s more than likely we shall do,” Horowitz added, “but it will be in the way that we’ve done it in the past, as opposed to locking all of our characters onto a boat and sending them [to a new realm].” Source

  She's one of the best female villians of all time, and not just in recent Disney history. This one even has her own theme music! Also, we can tell you that she is being brought in because now that Rumple and Regina have made peace, the writers felt they needed a new Big Bad and Mader's character will definitely be at odds with Regina. We will hopefully have your very first look at Mader's character (the new villain) on the night of Dec. 15 on E! Online, right after the episode of Once Upon a Time ends, so make sure you check back! Emma agrees to let Regina teach her how to use magic so that she can help defeat Zelena, and Mary Margaret and David try to prove that they can be just as much fun as Hook is with Henry -- who thinks they are boring. Meanwhile, in Fairy Tale Land during the past year, an angry Ariel confronts Hook over her missing Prince Eric, who she assumes was kidnapped and possibly killed by the swarthy pirate. But when Hook confesses that the Jolly Roger has been stolen and Eric is most likely the thief’s prisoner, Ariel unknowingly provides him with a clue as to who the culprit is, and Hook – with Ariel in tow - goes off in search of his ship.

Question: I’ve heard that Ariel will be back on Once Upon a Time. How will she be involved in the plot? —Ilenia
Ausiello: Without divulging the exact storyline, Colin O’Donoghue says that JoAnna Garcia Swisher’s encore as the Little Mermaid means “You’ll get to see Hook and Ariel interact a bit, which I think will be fun. They have a ‘tricky’ sort of relationship, and I think people will like it.”

Hook goes up against another foe: In an upcoming episode, Hook will meet yet another nemesis, this time in Blackbeard (Charles Mesure). “He is a pirate through and through and he and Captain Hook do not have a love for each other, and the only thing two pirates will fight over — even more than a woman — would be a ship,” Kitsis hints.”

Sure thing. Hook's missing year includes a battle with the infamous Blackbeard (Charles Mesure), who may have his eye on the Jolly Roger. "He and Captain Hook do not have a lot of love for each other," executive producer Edward Kitsis says. "The only thing two pirates would fight over even more than a woman would be a ship." Ruh-roh! We'll also see an entire episode devoted to the mysterious message Hook received about retrieving Emma.

HOW DID HOOK MANAGE TO CROSS REALMS? WHO SENT HIM THE MESSAGE THAT EMMA'S FAMILY WAS IN TROUBLE? AND WHO SUPPLIED THE MEMORY POTION?
At the time I spoke to Colin O'Donoghue on set (during the filming of Episode 18), he said the backstory behind Hook's journey had yet to be addressed. Update: But before then, we will learn the source of the potion. And before Season 3 closes, an entire episode will solve the remaining riddles and more -- including the possibility that whomever cast the new curse wanted the pirate to seek out Emma. "It could be a trap," Eddy Kitsis allows. "[The message] could also have been sent from somebody different than who he thought."
