Acclaimed country-music drama “Nashville” has returned for a fourth season—with more jaw-dropping, heartbreaking moments than ever before.

Season Three concluded with the ultimate cliffhanger—a flatline—as Deacon went under the knife to receive a liver transplant from his sister, Beverly. And when all is said and done, Rayna must learn to negotiate professional demands in the face of unthinkable personal tragedy. After the birth of her daughter Cadence, Juliette began to suffer from worsening postpartum depression and consequently recommitted to her music and movie careers—a choice that will cause her professional life to sizzle but her family life to fizzle. Her husband Avery, meanwhile, must determine how—and where—to raise their baby girl. Rayna’s teenage girls, Maddie and Daphne, grapple with growing pains of their own, knowing they have different fathers—one of whom (Deacon) may die in surgery and the other of whom (Teddy) is headed to prison.

Elsewhere, cowboy Luke Wheeler has recruited superstar Juliette Barnes to be on his record label—a timely boon, considering his biggest artist, Will Lexington, came out publicly at a press conference to the surprise of the whole industry. Scarlett and Gunnar, who together comprise musical duo The Exes, still remain exes as they embark on tour for their latest E.P., but their chemistry—both onstage and off—might soon be too powerful for them to deny. And Jeff Fordham, Rayna’s nemesis, continues to be romantically enmeshed with Highway-65 artist Layla Grant, the only person who can see the good in him but whom he always manages to hurt—whether he means to or not.

This season will see ”Nashville’s” singers, songwriters and superstars struggle to reconcile their public and private realities. Some will fight to climb to—or stay on—the top. Some will succumb to their own ambition. And all will learn how to survive in the wake of loss—proving that music may be at the heart of Music City, but drama always reigns.

“Nashville” stars Connie Britton as Rayna Jaymes, Hayden Panettiere as Juliette Barnes, Clare Bowen as Scarlett O’Connor, Chris Carmack as Will Lexington, Will Chase as Luke Wheeler, Charles Esten as Deacon Claybourne, Jonathan Jackson as Avery Barkley, Sam Palladio as Gunnar Scott, Maisy Stella as Daphne Conrad, Lennon Stella as Maddie Conrad and Aubrey Peeples as Layla Grant.

Dee Johnson (“Boss,” “The Good Wife”), “The War Room,” “A Perfect Candidate”), Callie Khouri (“Thelma & Louise”) and Steve Buchanan are executive producers of ““Nashville”.” The series is produced by Lionsgate, ABC Studios and Opry Entertainment

Why would they have a lot of extras for scene(s) that involve treatment center workers/visitors if Juliette is not involved? Also seems weird they would have the groups of people coming with a huge gap in their times? It seems like they are taping multiple scenes here to me based on this info? Correct? What is the point if there is no Juliette involved? Anyone know the answer?

You make a very good point, that is very curious. No idea, and I don't think the sides give any hint as to what the different taping means either. Still praying to hear some kind of update on Hayden's status.

I do know that there's a scene where Avery goes to the treatment center to see her, but they don't seem to let him. That doesn't mean that Juliette won't be filled in later before this airs, but it seems like they're creating the illusion of Juliette being there when Hayden isn't, just like they're doing on Mindy Project with Chris Messina since he's off filming a movie at the moment and can't be in the show.

Oh ok.. What a long break but here's hoping it gives time for some good stuff to be able to take place over the break.

Thanks for that , I wonder why there are two lot of extras too - maybe someone else goes to see her? Although why wouldn't they do that at the same time. Odd.

I enjoyed this weeks episode loads more and I could see a bit more where some of the story's might be heading - I think Jeff dying and the reasons why and the hiding of the truth is going to have a huge impact not just on Juliette and Layla but Luke and Avery's stories going forward. That's why I think we will get interaction between Avery/Luke and Avery/Layla all building to the truth coming out. Just imo I have no clue - as usual!!

Really hope The Beverly (one day I will type that and not want to laugh) means loads more performances from everyone. God it was so good to see Deacon performing again this week want to see more from everyone else.

There's no reason to believe it will mean more performances for everyone. Aubrey has already confirmed that she'll be getting "more songs than ever", so that automatically means the rest of the crew are getting less songs than ever.

Calling it now: The first real promoted concert at St. Beverly will be Layla Grant, which will be a mega-hit.

Well, her song was the top selling song this week for Nashville. Do we know how her other songs have sold? She might be selling better than some of the other people on itunes which would lead to a practical business decision to give her more songs. I do miss everyone else though, and was also super happy to see Deacon perform, and I know Connie doesn't feel the most comfortable performing, but I miss her being on tour.

Eventually, if you give someone all the good material, something's going to stick. You might as well have a dog singing it.
