Gilmore Girls S&S #141 ~ Lorelai wants Rory to have it all

Hi everyone. I’d like to remind you all that this is the main Gilmore Girls spoiler thread, and as such, posters from various shipper groups are free to post here, so if you see someone saying something that you don’t like about “your” favorite character or couple, don’t start fighting with them on this thread, and don’t go into a Gilmore Girls shipper thread if you don’t like the couple that the shipper thread is for. People are free to criticize upcoming events on Gilmore Girls as they read the upcoming spoilers, but don’t use this thread as a free-for-all to bash any characters or couples that you don’t like, or their fans, or you’ll find that you’ll be deprived of the privilege of reading and speculating about Gilmore Girls spoilers again here. Thanks in advance for your anticipated cooperation.

Episode 7.11 - Santa's Secret Stuff
Airdate: January 23rd

Writer: Rebecca Rand Kirshner
Director: Lee Shallat Chemel

TheCW: Rory (Alexis Bledel) returns from London after the holidays. Lorela (Lauren Graham) is disappointed that Rory celebrated Christmas in London with Logan, but decides to have a "Christmas after Christmas" celebration as a new family complete with trees, decorations and shopping. Luke (Scott Patterson) asks Lorelai to write a character recommendation letter for his custody battle with Anna over April

TheCW: LORELAI MAKES CHRISTMAS WAIT FOR RORY'S RETURN -- Rather than celebrating Christmas while Rory (Alexis Bledel) is in London over the holidays, Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Christopher (David Sutcliffe) decide to put their holidays on hold.
Once Rory returns to Stars Hollow, they decorate several Christmas trees, do their shopping and even bake Christmas cookies for the first time as a family. Turning up unexpectedly at the inn, Luke (Scott Patterson) asks Lorelai to write a character recommendation letter for his custody battle over April (Vanessa Marano). Lorelai struggles to write the letter until she and Rory run into Luke and April at the mall and Lorelai suddenly remembers how important Luke has always been in Rory's life. Inspired, Lorelai writes the letter and mails it to Luke's attorney.
Rory decides she will write an apology letter to her friend Lucy (Krysten Ritter), explaining why she and Marty kept their past friendship a secret. Melissa McCarthy and Keiko Agena also star. Lee Shallat Chemel directed the episode written by Rebecca Rand Kirshner.

TV Guide.com: Since a Christmas celebration was postponed while Rory was in London, the festivities begin when she crosses the pond, marking the first time Rory, Lorelai, and Christopher celebrate as a family; Luke asks Lorelai to write a letter of recommendation on his behalf in his custody battle over April; and Rory writes a letter apologizing to Lucy for keeping her relationship with Marty a secret and explaining the reasons why she did.

  • From ebay: Call sheet and sides for 2 scenes. Luke's Diner and Lane's Apartment. Lane is very pregnant and is irritable, particularly at the customers.

Episode 7.12 - To Whom It May Concern
Airdate: January 30th

Writer: David Babcock
Director: Jamie Babbitt

The CW: GOOD NEWS/BAD NEWS — Noticing Sookie’s (Melissa McCarthy) recent odd behavior, Lorelai (Lauren Graham) forces Jackson (Jackson Douglas) to tell her the reason. Luke (Scott Patterson) and Anna (Sherilyn Fenn) attend a hearing to decide their custody battle over April (Vanessa Marano). With help from Paris (Liza Weil), Rory (Alexis Bledel) finally makes amends with Lucy (Krysten Ritter), who tells her that she and Marty (Wayne Wilcox) have broken up. While attending Richard’s (Edward Herrmann) economics class at Yale, Rory witnesses a frightening scene. Finally, Christopher (David Sutcliffe) finds the letter Lorelai wrote for Luke’s character reference and confronts Lorelai about whether he was her second choice. Jamie Babbit directed the episode written by David Babcock (#2T7762).

:glow: TV Guide.com: Rory returns to Yale after winter break and leaves Lucy a note apologizing for her deception, while Paris ambushes Rory with her master plan of things they need to accomplish in their last semester. Meanwhile, Luke and Anna appear before a judge in the custody case; Sookie asks Lorelai to babysit so she and Jackson can go skiing, but Sookie's behavior is mysteriously erratic; and Christopher makes a discovery that leaves him shaken. Jim: Douglas Rowe. Barbara: Cheryl White.

Episode 7.13 - I'd Rather Be In Philadelphia
Airdate: February 6th

Writer: Rebecca Rand Kirshner
Director: Lee Shallat Chemel

:glow: From The CW: RICHARD IS HOSPITALIZED — In the hospital waiting room, Lorelai (Lauren Graham), Rory (Alexis Bledel) and Emily (Kelly Bishop) anxiously await word on Richard’s (Edward Herrmann) condition. When Logan (Matt Czuchry) hears what is happening, he borrows a helicopter to be by Rory’s side, but Lorelai is unable to reach Christopher (David Sutcliffe), who is still angry over their fight the night before. Upset by Emily’s attempt to remain calm by dealing with her social calendar, Lorelai is relieved when Luke (Scott Patterson) shows up unannounced and volunteers to run errands for Emily. Christopher finally arrives to be with Lorelai, but the scene at the hospital is more than he can take.

  • From Ausiello: This episode marks a major turning point in the Luke/Lorelai/Christopher triangle. Apparently, Luke and Christopher choose to deal with Richard's health crisis in very different ways: Luke chooses to run around helping Emily, while Christopher chooses to go off and sulk about a bad fight he had with Lorelai. Cue the inevitable Lorelai epiphany.
  • Sides for 7.13 include: Nurse, Middle-Aged Woman, Paula, Dr. Leibowitz (We don't have the sides, just the names of the characters.)

Thanks for the new thread Caf

Rory was supposed to have more than me - why does that automatially mean Lorelai can't get her whole package ? That was a big part of her theme throughout the show and ending the show without giving it to Lorelai would be kind of stupid. Besides I think Lorelai meant it carreer wise in Rory's case - finishing high school, going to college and getting the job of her dreams.

blaab 01-19-2007 09:26 AM

Thanks for the new thread Caf!

I like this title for different reasons:

1. reference to Sandy's question that I liked a lot!
2. Lorelai and her wanting Rory to have it all (to me this in no way means that Lorelai can't have it all or deserves nothing, but just something all mothers would want for their kids). And since this is a show about a mom and a daughter ...
3. Rory getting it all (according to my own definition which is literally all, not just careerwise), seems nice to me !!!

I am sure Rory also wants Lorelai to have it all, that wouldn't mean Rory doesn't deserve anything or would get nothing ...

Sandlynn 01-19-2007 09:33 AM

Quote:

He's not the only one who has that thought. I was never a big fan of Rory but this season so far she almost reached dopey's level. Maybe Lucy has something to do with it, too but Rory's non existing storyline is not really something I'm looking forward to.
You're being contradictory here. If Rory has no storyline, then how can she appear to be whiney or reach anyone's level of dopiness. She's basically just been there in the background doing reaction shots. What else has there been? (I know you might not know because you don't care about her or watch her scenes.)

Quote:

I'm more optimist about Lorelai getting her whole package than Voltron ending this season as a couple. But that's just me.
I think this will happen too, but it has nothing to do with optimism. The writers just don't have the same investment in Rory, and by extension, Logan. They just don't care enough, and hope we won't notice since they threw in another helicopter.

Quote:

Melodie, I liked your post better. When I stated the same thing months ago ! I do agree with the sentiment. However, Lorelai, has never even come close to questioning herself. Only if the episode description is correct. Which I assume it is. Does it seem as if Lorelai Gilmore will finally have someone WALK OUT ON HER. Which should -- hopefully -- lead to Lorelai finally taking her very own emotional red pill.
Yeah, you're right. She always does the walking. It'll be good to see her finally face what she's often doled out to others.

Quote:

If that storyline wouldn't include so much whining that I get annoyed everytime she is on screen I would sit through her scenes. The whining combined with the non exsisting storyline makes me wanna leave the room and make me some coffee.
Once again, contradictory. Rory doesn't have storylines. You don't sit through her scenes. So, how could Rory be whining in her non-existent storylines and how could it possibly bother you, if she were?

Quote:

Unfortunately, noticing that Rory has become a whiner is not contradictory to the show.
Name the whining, since you agree that that is ALL Rory does.

Quote:

Oh Logan do you have to go to work....

Oh Logan couldn't you have mentioned that Bobby was a girl....

Oh Logan couldn't you have said we were having dinner with other people...

Oh Logan I was not hiding this from you....it's complicated....please lie for me and Marty....

Oh Logan I'm mad so I'm going to move out! So there....

For starters.
HA!!! I remember people -- JJs as a matter of fact -- defending Rory on these points and chastising Logan for not mentioning Bobby or that they were going to be dining with co-workers, for not going along with Marty and Rory's lie, for finally moving out of Logan's richy-rich apt. and making it on her own! It wasn't whining then, but now it's whining? So, you now support Logan's point of view, and think Rory had not a leg to stand on?

Quote:

I was referring to the sentiment that Lorelai deserves to remain single the rest of her life cos she's such a screwed up person who can't maintain a relationship.

Like being single is a punishment. Egads.
I've noticed that people on this board tend to mock *me* because I'm not married. Or variations of this kind of thing. So, yeah, it appears that people here, on this board, do see being single as a punishment or definitely something to put other people down about. That's why Lorelai must be married, but not Rory. Married = good; single = pathetic.

Quote:

Way to go Sandy for sending MR that letters. That man is a jerk and a fan boy.
Not I. There's more than one Sandy in the world, as this board proves. But, hey, I like the sentiments in the emails.

Rebeccajill 01-19-2007 09:44 AM

Thanks Caf

Great title Sarah!

peachypeep 01-19-2007 09:48 AM

Thanks caf - too bad about the title, though. Hee.

Well, one person's whine is another person's wine.
