Acclaimed country-music drama “Nashville” has returned for a fourth season—with more jaw-dropping, heartbreaking moments than ever before.

Season Three concluded with the ultimate cliffhanger—a flatline—as Deacon went under the knife to receive a liver transplant from his sister, Beverly. And when all is said and done, Rayna must learn to negotiate professional demands in the face of unthinkable personal tragedy. After the birth of her daughter Cadence, Juliette began to suffer from worsening postpartum depression and consequently recommitted to her music and movie careers—a choice that will cause her professional life to sizzle but her family life to fizzle. Her husband Avery, meanwhile, must determine how—and where—to raise their baby girl. Rayna’s teenage girls, Maddie and Daphne, grapple with growing pains of their own, knowing they have different fathers—one of whom (Deacon) may die in surgery and the other of whom (Teddy) is headed to prison.

Elsewhere, cowboy Luke Wheeler has recruited superstar Juliette Barnes to be on his record label—a timely boon, considering his biggest artist, Will Lexington, came out publicly at a press conference to the surprise of the whole industry. Scarlett and Gunnar, who together comprise musical duo The Exes, still remain exes as they embark on tour for their latest E.P., but their chemistry—both onstage and off—might soon be too powerful for them to deny. And Jeff Fordham, Rayna’s nemesis, continues to be romantically enmeshed with Highway-65 artist Layla Grant, the only person who can see the good in him but whom he always manages to hurt—whether he means to or not.

This season will see ”Nashville’s” singers, songwriters and superstars struggle to reconcile their public and private realities. Some will fight to climb to—or stay on—the top. Some will succumb to their own ambition. And all will learn how to survive in the wake of loss—proving that music may be at the heart of Music City, but drama always reigns.

“Nashville” stars Connie Britton as Rayna Jaymes, Hayden Panettiere as Juliette Barnes, Clare Bowen as Scarlett O’Connor, Chris Carmack as Will Lexington, Will Chase as Luke Wheeler, Charles Esten as Deacon Claybourne, Jonathan Jackson as Avery Barkley, Sam Palladio as Gunnar Scott, Maisy Stella as Daphne Conrad, Lennon Stella as Maddie Conrad and Aubrey Peeples as Layla Grant.

Dee Johnson (“Boss,” “The Good Wife”), “The War Room,” “A Perfect Candidate”), Callie Khouri (“Thelma & Louise”) and Steve Buchanan are executive producers of ““Nashville”.” The series is produced by Lionsgate, ABC Studios and Opry Entertainment

Thanks for the new thread! We can only hope, but at this point it's getting very difficult to be positive.

LOL, I sadly am past the point of hope. Other than I hope that JJ and Connie- and most everyone else- is freed from this hot mess.

Just curious. Do you all think anyone from the show sees this board and gives feedback (obviously if they did, it doesn't matter LOL) I know on some of the soaps they do.

Ed has an account here and used to occasionally stop by the Nashville board. So people involved with the show are at least aware. Not sure they regularly keep up to date with it though. If they do they clearly don't care what we have to say.

I think they really believe that once we start watching it we'll be as excited as they obviously are. I think they see us as just not knowing enough to REALLY UNDERSTAND what they're doing and that once we do we'll be grateful for their hard work.

I think this is deluded BS too, but I think that's how the writers see it.

I agree but I also don't think they take fans seriously. They lie all the time in interviews. Like was it necessary to tell us that happy/light time were coming in s4B. I find s4B more depressing than s4A and it had PPD from hell and cancer/donor dying story. It's hey we will give them this wedding so they have nothing to complain about except just by looking at J/A getting a wedding doesn't mean much if there is no marriage to follow because it's all crap. The funny thing is before this season even started I wrote 3 deal breakers that would be the only thing that would ever make me stop watching and stop caring and this season they broke all three and then some. So far they are showing that all these people shouldn't be together at all. S/G is the I hate you/I like you/I hate you can't stand to look at you wishy washy game, D/R is such an insane mess over a spoil kid who can't understand a father grieving I guess and J/A basically tells the tell of don't get PPD or you will lose everything to your younger vengeful enemy. Where is the love and happiness? Why should I invest in this world of depression... tell me show, tell me cause with each sides I am wondering why I am still here.

I think even if they see what we're saying, to them we're just an extremely small portion of the general audience, and while we, the more passionate fans, may want certain things, they are writing for the general, more casual audience, who they must think only want the dramatic, roller coaster, plot-driven storylines they have been writing for several seasons now. You'd think the dropping ratings would be a sign that they're not doing it right, but alas, they don't seem to get the message.

This is exactly what I think is going on. They still get tons of people saying it's their favorite show and the best thing on TV so they're going with that rather than people like us with a critical eye. And they clearly don't understand why they're losing fans.
