I hate to be a downer but I don't think he will be in the CS

The guy dancing with the redhead in pic 32 looks like it *could* be Evelyn, if he suddenly decided to have sideburns.

I'm at least taking heart in the fact that Blake looks really unhappy in most of his pics. I can live with Gillingham (because, honestly, Tom Cullen could have great chemistry with a pineapple), but I really do not want it to be Blake. So if she's going to give Blake the boot that *might* make the CS worth watching, even without Evelyn.

But...I just have to say, why in the world would the son and heir of a viscount not be at a debutante ball, but his middle class boss is there? Whaaaaa?

If Mabel Lane Fox is in the CS, and her name hasn't been given out yet, that doesn't mean Evelyn isn't in it.

Remember that there weren't any pictures of him in the Episode 5 gallery.


Further, that list isn't official--and like I said before, they may be withholding his name for a reason. Don't lose hope guys, I know it's him. If he was a red herring, they would have advertised him heavily at the beginning! But instead they focused on Tony and Blake, sot that rules that out.

Agreed about Gillingham. Can't stand Blake for Mary. The thought just bugs me so much. And it's just so forced, and repetitive almost like they're trying to recreate Matthew and Mary. I'm afraid if it isn't Evelyn, it will be Blake. Ugh. JF will have Mary's husband be someone who can help her manage the estate and adapt to modern times. Only options would be Evelyn and Blake. Gillingham is old aristocracy like Robert and therefore probably not that useful. And I don't see why he'd choose Gillingham as her husband over Evelyn. He doesn't 'challenge' her anymore than Evelyn does.

Yes, I find it odd that Evelyn wouldn't be at the debutante ball, but Charles would be. Then again, Charles is obviously there to impress Mary and to woo her...

As for him looking unhappy, I don't know...Mary (in her blue dress) looks quite intently at him in that picture with her, Charles and Tony.

Crossing my fingers that is the case. I just don't like that there are so many pictures of her and Charles Blake...But maybe it's a red herring as you say ;-)

By the way, why do you think Mabel Lane Fox will be in the episode?If you think that woman standing next to Charles is Mabel Lane Fox, it isn't. That is the actress Janet Montgomery who plays the Prince of Wales (Oliver Dimsdale)'s mistress: Freda Dudley Ward.

Oh I didn't say we saw her. I just wouldn't be surprised if she was in it since they kept mentioning her. That and her being aristocracy.

I maintain that Blakr is a red herring. It's exactly what JF wants people to think.

I noticed how Charles Blakes looks really JEALOUS while Mary's dancing with Gillingham (around the 0.24 mark) . He looks like he wants to punch Gillingham's face...LOL. *on my knees praying* Please let this be a good sign. I need this.

Also around the 0.14 mark, I think it's Mary (in a blue dress) walking with a man with Downton Abbey in the background. I wonder who that is, but whoever he is, he looks about the same height as her or maybe it's just the angle. I know Brendan is a bit taller. LOL I'm going crazy analysing the trailer.

So...judging from Mary's body language in both the trailer and the picture of her dancing with Blake (from the site with all the pictures I posted yesterday or so) I'm thinking she isn't still isn't into either of them. PLEASE let this be the case *goes on my knees to pray some more*

I did. Not worried, actually quite encouraged. I'm not sure the dude outside is brendan because of height. I'm hoping it's Tom...but really if it was Blake, I think we're safe because that's too much of a hint to be anything other than a red herring. We're good .

I don't know if you were around when ITV released the series 2 Christmas trailer....We knew from articles (since it was DA's first Christmas special the press saw the episode about a month in a special viewing before the air date) that there was a ' very moving romantic moment in the snow' and some very perceptive people could make out that it was Matthew and Mary twirling in the snow in the ITV trailer. So, if it is Charles (I don't think it is, it looks more like Gillingham to be honest, I'm not even sure it is Mary) it might not be a red herring. Like then it's hard to tell who the two people are.

But it's different now because slow burning M/M were always always always the plan. He could afford to be obvious then, but now? When how America reacts could make or break the show's success? A lot of people are still in mourning over Matthew, so this season is still-- as intended--the rebuilding of Mary. Don't worry, I'm convinced it's a red herring.

Good point. But the thing is, it wasn't obvious. M/M were tiny figures, one couldn't make out it was them with the naked eye. It was also like 1/100th of a second. Blink and you missed it. I downloaded the trailer and had it play very, very slow and I still couldn't see that it was Matthew and Mary. Anyway, maybe the couple walking outside isn't important. And like ajblondie said, maybe it's Rose. What I did find encouraging was that Blake seemed jealous. Which is great because in episode 7 and 8 Gillingham seemed slightly so (i.e. "don't like him better than me"; "I don't want to leave you alone with Charles", etc). And I don't think he walks away mad (like Matthew did) and he clearly dances with her too at the same event.
