Ooo, interesting... maybe the original sorcerer found a way to separate himself from the curse by attaching it to the dagger.

Sometimes I think fans come up with better story twists than the writers.

I can see that... with show.... anything could happen. And the first Dark One would be the most powerful, every incarnation to follow would be less and less, yet still be way more powerful than any other practitioner of magic.

Perhaps Rumple is unique in being a DO as he retained some of his humanity and did not give in totally to the darkness, as the previous DO's did. Because of this, the Sorcerer has a special interest/plans for Rumple.

Bae was part of his humanity, the reason he managed to hold on to it, yet mask it under madness so no one would catch on, until Belle, and then he tied another string of his humanity to her. Now, who knows how he'll be. Though, if The Sorcerer and the original Dark One are one in the same, what would cause him to be separated from the hat? I really hope the writers pay more attention and actually give us answers and not 1,000 more questions.

Does anyone have a link to the full Sorceror = original Dark One theory? It sounds very cool, but wasn't the hat protected with light magic? How would the Dark One get that?

The Dark One mythology/mystery is one of the most interesting things they've come up with on this show; I wish they'd flesh it out more. A curse going back hundreds if not thousands of years; this is epic stuff.

I had a theory that he needed Hook's heart to pass on the DO curse but keep the magic so Hook would be a slave to the dagger but not get any of the magic that went along with it.

But that theory didn't go anywhere. I thought it would have been interesting.

So now Rumple has no magic but he also can't be controlled by the dagger unless he returns to Storybrooke. I wonder if he needs to find magic in order to get back into town ...
