Yup. Maybe I am wrong, but I don't think we've ever seen Jack and Hobbes have a meaningful conversation after Jack moved in with him. It's like the writers only put Jack and Hobbes together because the soap opera plot required it.

Yeah, exactly, everything appears conveniently positioned for 'love drama' instead of it flowing with the story with us getting something of depth out of it.

Here's the description of Gretsch's character and the episode:
Everyone loves a man in uniform. Joel Gretsch plays Major Lucas Provo, a JAG Corps attorney who comes to Albuquerque to help with Mary (Mary McCormack) and Marshall's (Frederick Weller) most recent witness: a decorated war vet with a troubling secret. Provo proves unflappable and inscrutable as he and Mary spar over the best course of action for the witness. Despite Mary being six months pregnant and feeling completely unromantic, there seems to be a spark between Mary and Provo.
