About the Series

At once deeply observed and intriguingly elusive, THE AFFAIR explores the emotional effects of an extramarital relationship. Noah is a New York City schoolteacher and novelist who is happily married, but resents his dependence on his wealthy father-in-law. Alison is a young waitress trying to piece her life and marriage back together in the wake of a tragedy. Set in Montauk at the end of Long Island, the provocative drama unfolds separately from both the male and female perspectives, using the distinct memory biases of both to tell the story.

MSN Entertainment says they think Maggie Smith will win, but Maura Tierney SHOULD win.

WILL WIN: Maggie Smith, Downton Abbey Talk about a Game of Thrones split. Wow, three supporting actress noms this year. I love this whole category. And despite not liking The Affair, I found Maura Tierney's work this season to be exceptional; she really could be the dark horse winner here.

I only watch the Affair and Unreal of the nominees, I love both actresses. But if I were voting I'd give a slight edge to Maura. She's doing so many versions of Helen.

I'm crossing my fingers for Maura. I think she deserves it, but I'm sure Maggie Smith does as well.

Am I the only one that gets excited just seeing a chair with Josh's name on it?

It seems from most news sources that Maggie Smith is the popular pick, while Maura is the sleeper pick. Best of luck to Maura on Sunday!

Very true, Sarah has said we'd love Noah in every season. And always seems confused when the reaction is the opposite. I don't know what she's seeing that we don't, but she's written a extremely unlikeable character. It would be pretty hard to turn it around at this point.

And I know it's not Dominic West, I've watched him in many things and liked him. It's the character Noah.

I wonder what Noah is going to do to make us like him? I don't really like any of the Butler/Solloway clan for that matter. I think all the acting/actors are great but the characters are not very likeable. I prefer the Lockhart clan except for Cherry - I think she is very manipulative and probably had a lot to do with Cole and Alison's break-up, even before Noah came on to the scene. I could imagine her having little digs at them, both together and separately, as she didn't think Alison was good enough for Cole, especially after Gabriel's death.

I suppose that is one of the reasons Noah and Alison found solace in each other - neither of their respective in-laws thought they were good enough for their partners.

That's true - even the kids. Martin pretending to hang himself then later letting the new horse out, his little brother wanting the dad to throw Martin out of a plane if he had to get rid of a family member, Helen drug driving with the kids in the car (An automatic driving ban in this country) Whitney sleeping with Scotty without protection and I wonder what the youngest child is going to get up to this season, apart from choking on marbles! She may be old enough to cause havoc by season 3.
