i dont agree at all. i dont think they gave lucaya false hope. after all, they wrote it so that maya had feelings for lucas from the very beginning. they've been building it for quite a while that lucas had feelings too. (with the beautiful blonde comment and the "you look good" and the shared looks and zay's comments etc). riley said herself that maya stepped back. and maya said she was holding it in for a while. if the writers didnt want lucaya to happen they never had to go there. no one expected it to go there considering it was riley/lucas from the beginning.

it wasnt just maya that said lucas and riley were too alike, others said it as well. yes they have similar values and riley makes him feel good about himself but the writers also had positive things to say about maya and lucas. that they were "fire" together and that she needs to keep him on his toes by making fun of it. the first two episodes of texas seemed more focused on lucaya to me and maya being the only one that actually cared if lucas got hurt said a lot to me. that whole campfire scene was the most intense scene between two characters the shows had IMO. you never ever see lucas acting that way with riley. he almost kissed maya, which says a lot about how he's feeling too imo.

we dont know that lucas/maya are a "stall" for riley/lucas, the episode was super unresolved. the next episode riley can admit she still likes lucas and it can be in the air again. or even now lucas can deny maya and say he still likes riley and then it would stall both pairings. there are a lot of different routes to take. even rowan said that nothing is set in stone.



personally i feel that the writers intentionally are playing BOTH sides because they dont want anyone to lose hope and they want to keep both ships happy. so neither ship is going to happen right now.

All that being said, even though it was wrong for Riley to blurt out Maya's feelings like that, I still care about her development more than anyone. And I care about this triangle least of all. Like, minuscule amounts. Why are we doing a triangle between best friends on GMW? Cory and Shawn would neverrrrr

Now I'm bummed actually, watching Part 3.





The writers have been extremely insistent that Cory/Topanga is not Riley/Lucas. And I get that. There can only be one Cory/Topanga (which for the most part, I feel like they are trying to recreate with Auggie/Ava or something). But I always saw that in terms of the idea that Riley and Lucas will have other loves and date other people, but will still be drawn together in the end or something. Which is why I was ok with Riley dating someone else (like Charlie) for now.

And at the end of the day, Riley is the lead of this show. So anyone dating outside of her is kind of not on my radar, unless it is Matthews related (like Maya dating Josh later on, because that directly affects Riley). Maya dating Lucas, Lucas dating other people, Maya dating someone else...keep that stuff off-screen tbh. Of course, that's my opinion, not saying it's right. I've very openly here for the Matthews dynamic only. And Farkle. I love Farkle.
