I mean, also we just can't be trusted with it because racism is too baked into the American criminal justice system, but I'm one who doesn't want it as an option even for the worst possible offender, which this pretty much is - a sociopathic mass murderer.

I think even as a kid, it made me uncomfortable. I just...I don't think state-sanctioned murder is a thing that ever needs to happen.

It’s not like I’d be sorry to be in a world Nikolas Cruz was not in, but this is why I could never be on a jury where the death penalty was on the table - I’m not going to help the state kill them.

And I think it muddies the water. People always say in true crime cases “I could maybe vote to convict him, but not if it’s a case with the possibility of death penalty.” Then you need to recuse yourself, as I would. There isn’t a different legal standard here. You’re subverting the legal system.

It's like people genuinely believe there is a different legal standard for death penalty cases. You can absolutely be BOTHERED by the fact that there's not. I am. LOL. But you can't get on a jury such a case and then vote as if there is a different legal standard than "beyond a reasonable doubt" when there's not. Like, my opposal to the death penalty has to be balanced with the fact that a crime has been committed and I'm not going to force the victims' families to sit through a trial so that I can make a stand on the death penalty that way. It's inappropriate.

One woman on the Parkland jury sounds like she was opposed to it all along. Sigh. Again, can’t cheer the death penalty, but also won’t cheer that.

The US true crime trials are wild right now. I don’t even understand what is happening with Darrell Brooks?! How is this behavior allowed.
