Columbine happened when I was in high school and we definitely spent a lot of time wondering "who was going to go Columbine on us", and it was...not productive. Though to be fair, my choice was a guy who'd taken a baseball bat to another kid's kneecaps, so I wasn't singling out some innocent goth kid, lol.

He was a scary guy tbh. He had a nasty temper. If I'd seen him with a gun, I both wouldn't have been surprised and I would have done everything I could to book it.

I have actively avoided him for many years, lol. I had one friend who was still friends with him in our early 20s, but then he got kind of freaked out by him too.

It is kind of depressing when someone who was bullied becomes a bully, and sees that as their only way to power instead of having some empathy.

I was fine in high school on the whole but I was viciously bullied in middle school (I maintain middle schoolers are a bunch of psychos, lol) and it never made me want to bully anyone else. Why would I want someone else to feel that way? It makes no sense to me.

I think people like that - bullied people who want to bully - may not be the most likely to pull off a mass shooting, but they're likely to be obsessed with the shooters :/

Because of course it's not only those who are violent who become obsessed or it wouldn't have turned into the forest fire it did. Way too many people are obsessed and it leads others to want that same notoriety.

It chills me that the Parkland shooter named how many he wanted to kill and came disturbingly close to that figure - pretty much on the nose when also counting students who were severely wounded.
