He wanted to kill 20 people. He killed 17 and badly wounded 4 more, including 2 who barely survived. So he at least potentially mortally wounded 19 people. How did he even...he's not even that bright. How do they do this? It's terrifying.

They released more footage of him in the school. They didn't SHOW him shooting the two teachers, but they showed him raising his gun - no hesitation whatsoever. I don't believe in the death penalty, but I'd be a little surprised if he didn't get it. It's a blanket position for me, not based on me thinking this guy has a conscience. He clearly does not.

Florida's system is actually harder than some, which is surprising, heh, but it is. One juror is all it takes, and even if you aren't like me (I will never be on a capitol case because I simply will not vote for the death penalty under any circumstances), when you're in that room? Having the power to kill someone? I think in a room of 12, there's a solid chance one person just will not be able to do it. I would have thought if there was going to be a case to get them all there, it would have been this one.

He is young. He had a difficult life. For me, if I was deciding criminal responsibility, that's not enough. At this point, he can pretty confidently be diagnosed with anti-social personality disorder, so in the common term, he is a sociopath. He feels no remorse. That interview with the psychiatrist made that clear. But for people deciding if he lives or dies, that may be something else - there was never any like, "He's getting out of this". He already pleaded guilty and LWOP was the minimum sentence. A couple of them seemed to think that was enough.
Part of me wishes it hadn't even been on the table, because I feel like the families got traumatized for nothing. I don't think state-sponsored murder should happen. I just can't get there. It's not about the severity of the crime for me - obviously, this is as bad as it gets. I just don't think we prove murder is wrong by committing murder. But I'm still heartbroken for the further ordeal for the families here, and that they now feel like they weren't listened to. __________________

If we simply didn't allow it across the board, they wouldn't feel like the jurors didn't care about their loved ones as much as the shooter's life, which is terrible. The death penalty can be terrible in a lot of different ways, including when it's an option but not one that's used.
