Selleck packs a "Magnum"

'Whit' has some interesting new speculation in regards to the recently announced movie version in the works of the classic 80's series:

"A guy I know, Mike McCullers, has just got the job to pen the new film version of the TV series Magnum PI. Long story short, I ran into Mike at the premiere of "Scary Movie 3" here in the UK last week. Brian Grazer is going to make the film at his production company.

Mike's on the first draft of the film version (the story will start from scratch, a'la the pilot episode of the series, with how Magnum becomes to work for Robin Masters and Higgins should it be without Selleck, otherwise it will kick off with Magnum on a mission in Taiwan - which is more the case now, he says).

There's not much to tell, but the studio has been suggesting big names for the lead role and the producers and writers have suggested they stick with tom selleck, just make the character of magnum older.

Mike says it looks like they may have won. No Clooney. No Travolta. No other name A-Lister. Everyone's agreeing that Selleck is Magnum, and audiences probably wouldn't respond if he wasn't.

Here's a concept the studios should try. Take the time and money spent to develop several mediocre to idiotic series and instead develop one interesting show that is unique and well thought and planned out.
Alas, I remember a series that started out just that way…

Hire good talent with chemistry and that can actually act instead of for their size double DD bras squeezed into a tank top.
LOL, no matter how bodacious the tatas, they just can’t act

A new Magnum movie, huh? Well, I have to admit, I can’t see anyone else other than Tom Selleck, either. I spent many an television evening drooling over him.

I saw that LOTR got 11 Oscar nominations, and Johnny Depp was nominated for a best actor

Did anyone else watch the first part of the USA channel's miniseries Traffic last night?
I thought they did a pretty good job. Definitly held my interest. I hope the remaining two parts are just as good.

Taffy Well, drat! I meant to watch the miniseries. Good to hear it is good; I will no doubt see it listed again so I'll give it a try then. Please let us know how the rest goes!

Count me in as one who can't see anyone other than Tom Selleck as Magnum. I spent some quality hours watching that show.

Just thought I'd peek in at the old stomping grounds. I haven't been here in quite a while. I hope that all my SD's are doing well. We're housebound here in NC due to the weather and the kids are out of school again tomorrow. Family togetherness is a good thing, but I'm beginning to think that it's possible to have just a tad too much of a good thing.

Take care all. Only 36 more threads until we get to the magic SD number.

Second part was good. I have to admit that it's a little predictable but not overly so. And you can see where the storylines are starting to come together. Definetly worth catching.

Nice to see you Silky

I agree with you about Tom Selleck. I wonder if they'll have the original Higgins, TC and Rick too if they go for TS. It won't be the same without them (are they all even still alive!?)

Naomi Watts Confirmed for Jackson's King Kong
Source: TheMovieBox, TheOneRing.net
Tuesday, January 27, 2004

TheMovieBox reports that E! News Daily interviewed Naomi Watts and director Peter Jackson at the BAFTA/LA luncheon on Saturday, and Watts confirmed she is set to star in Universal's King Kong.

"I will sit in the hand of King Kong," she said laughing and referring to the Ann Darrow role. She also mentioned that she'll start filming in August for a December 14, 2005 release.

Jackson added that he wants "to approach King Kong as a drama, not as a fantasy, not as anything other than a straight drama and explore what would really happen in that situation and I think would be interesting."

Meanwhile, TheOneRing.net got a chance to speak briefly to Jackson Monday night who revealed that the extended The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King DVD will be 4 hours and 10 minutes long.

Taffy Thanks for the info. Are they mimicking the movie? I didn't see it, so I guess it makes no real difference, just curious.

Disney Picks Up a Different Kind of Love Triangle Source: Variety Wednesday, January 28, 2004

Disney has acquired an untitled romantic comedy pitch from French actor/director/producer Alain Chabat, reports Variety. It is unclear yet who will direct.

The film, being written by Emmy-winning writers Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger (King of the Hill), is the story of a woman who dumps her superhero but commitment-phobic boyfriend in favor of a regular Joe. However, when both men realize she is the girl of their dreams, they become embroiled in a love triangle.

The superhero, now lonely and self-destructive -- and facing rising crime due to his distraction over the lost love -- is left wondering how he can win her back.

Meanwhile, the normal guy has to live up to her ex and find the superhero within himself to win her heart.
