I honestly don't think they cared, and I think that Stupin was heavily influenced by the very vocal Pacey and Joey crowd on the Internet.

Oh he was. Even after the show on the S4 dvd commentary he mentions how he was originally going to do one for the season finale Coda, however he said fans he was in contact with convinced him to do it for the graduation episode instead.

He was too stupid to realize the biggest fanbase of the show was non-Internet.

Are you kidding me?

He sounds so immature and ridiculous. Even if that’s true, there was an immediate remedy. Close the current one out and create a new account.

Wow. Now I guess we’re seeing why he felt the need to sacrifice his career and give the PJ fans a pathetic, tacked on ending. He might have felt like he was “in” with this fanbase who were using him for PJ. Incredible.

Yes, I feel that's exactly it.

Dawson's Creek was the first show that I know of that used the Internet as a Marketing tool. They had "Dawson's Desktop," which continued the show in between episodes and was really quite unique for its time as it replicated an actual computer desktop of that era, with icons you could click on that would bring you to different "interests" that Dawson had. It was pretty cool. Later on the had "Desktops" for the other main characters but I didn't bother visiting those "Desktops" because I was disenchanted with the show by then.

With that being said, I think that the Internet unduly influenced Stupin and the writers of the show, because the Pacey and Joey fans rigged the polls to make Pacey and Joey look more popular than they were, and Stupin himself admitted that some Internet fans knew his AOL Screen Name and so they apparently had a direct line to him.

I never knew any of this. Back then I was still new to the Internet/social media tools, and don’t even know how I found when I did. LOL.

Had no idea “Dawson’s Desktop” existed.

I think this is why Stupin handed them the PJ ending. I never knew he had this direct contact with them. It explains a lot. What a joke.

Yes, "Dawson's Desktop" was on the Official Website for Dawson's Creek, which was a Columbia TriStar Television, Inc. Website. Columbia TriStar Television, Inc. produced Dawson'e Creek.

Columbia TriStar Television, Inc. no longer exists. It's now branded as Sony Pictures.

Interesting. The WB site is the only thing I found and then of course .

Was “Dawson’s Desktop” also a message board?
