The Little Mermaid

the story ;
1989: An animated tale of a beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, who is fascinated by the human world,
to the dismay of her father, King Triton. She spies Prince Eric and falls hopelessly in love. Sebastian
the crab is sent by the king to keep an eye on Ariel, though he cannot stop her from rescuing the prince
during a storm. Ursula the sea witch plots to grant Ariel's wish to be human, in exchange for her beautiful
voice, and as part of a larger scheme to gain control of Triton's realm. Eric finds himself falling for the
now-human mermaid, but Ursula tricks him and Ariel, now mute, cannot warn him. Finally, Ariel and Eric
together foil Ursula's evil plans, save the undersea kingdom, and receive Triton's blessing.

movie history ;
The first Disney animated feature in three decades based on a classic fairy tale (since "Sleeping Beauty"),
this film turned to the famous story by Hans Christian Andersen. Disney artists had considered an
animated film of "The Little Mermaid" in the late 1930s, and illustrator Kay Nielsen prepared a number of
striking story sketches in pastels and watercolors. For this film, the artists received inspiration from the
Nielsen story sketches that were brought out of the Archives for them to study, and they gave Kay Nielsen
a "visual development" credit on the film. Actress Sherri Stoner was the live-action model for Ariel.

The film probably had more effects than any animated film since "Fantasia;" nearly 80% of the film
required some kind of effects work -- storms at sea, billowing sails, schools of fish, shadows, raging fire,
explosions, magic pixie dust, surface reflections, underwater distortions, ripples, and bubbles. Academy
Award® winner for Best Song ("Under the Sea") and Best Original Score. Released on video in 1990.

Directed by John Musker and Ron Clements. Starring: the voices of Jodi Benson (Ariel), Pat Carroll (Ursula),

Since I guess we won't be having a live action thread, I say yes cause it deserves some love as well lol. I'll obviously be getting the Blu Ray. I thought it would come out in August, but I guess September isn't that far off either.

I don't buy dvd's / blu-rays anymore, I don't even have where to watch them anymore.

But I'm sad it's gonna to take a while for the movie to be on Disney+.

You are correct. It's pointless to have an animated and a live action thread when it's the same general story so we can talk about all versions, sequels and cool stuff associated with them.

I'd like, if anyone has any pictures from the internet of little mermaid tattoos, I'd love to see them.

Oh my gosh. I was just looking for reviews of ''The Little Mermaid II: Return to Sea'' & 1 issue that a reviewer had was that the character ''Morgana'' which was I think used in place for ''Ursula'' had a significantly smaller body size. Also, the trident was a sword I understand in it for some reason. Interesting.

People complain about everything and even worse, they gatekeep. JUST BECAUSE you like something originally doesn't give someone the right to be negative on anything else about it. I always say if you dont like the remakes or sequels then shut the **** up because nobody gives a **** about your opinion, lol. That's why I only listen to movie feedback from a few people.

It was like that crap with Metallica when their song was used in Stranger Things and a lot of younger people were shown their music for the first time. A lot of their "older" fans were attacking it, gatekeeping, saying to go back to their Justin Bieber or whatever. That made me so mad. Everyone experiences something for the first time and we need to celebrate that.

That said, lol, I haven't seen Return to the Sea but I wouldn't be upset if someone were smaller or there was a sword. I just want a good story, the rest is forgivable.

I have yet to see it either, but yeah if ones were looking forward to seeing "Ursula" in it, they will perhaps be disappointed.
