Shiri Appleby as Cate Cassidy

Shiri Appleby stars as the beautiful and talented Cate Cassidy, a popular Portland, Oregon radio personality who is reunited with the 15-year-old daughter (Britt Robertson) she gave up for adoption back in high school, in The CW's midseason drama "Life UneXpected."

Appleby is best known for her portrayal of Liz, a teenager who falls in love with an alien on the television series "Roswell." Her additional television credits include "Six Degrees" and the final season of "ER." Her film credits include "Swimfan," "Undertow," "Havoc" and "Charlie Wilson's War," directed by Mike Nichols.

Appleby splits her time between Los Angeles, California and New York City, New York. She lives in Vancouver, British Columbia, during the filming of "Life UneXpected."

Shiri was great tonight! I felt kinda bad for her, though.
When she said "Have a good day" to Lux in the end, I was like "awww"! Sad and sweet.

Cate has quickly become one of my favourite tv characters. It's gonna sound weird but everything she does - good or bad, never upsets me. Sometimes I'm not too fond of some of her actions but there's never really a moment when I hate her or I find her annoying. Even when she yells or brings out her neurotic side!
Maybe it has something to do with Shiri too.

Rachel, I'm the same way with both Lux and Cate. Nothing either of them does really upsets me. I sometimes feel like yelling, "Don't do it! You're going to regret that!", etc, at the tv, but I always feel bad for them when it blows up in their faces.

I've definitely come to understand Cate's character this season. Last season she made me want to pull out my hair but this one I'm finally getting who Cate is.

Emily, yeah exactly! For some reason I think people with flaws are more likeable and have something special. I don't mind if she screws up, as long as she has a good heart and everything.

I'm definitely liking Cate more this season than last too. She drove me crazy quite a bit last season, but I feel for her so much more now. I think I understand her more too.

Me too! My favorites always wind up being the most deeply flawed/brattish/unpopular character on the show I'm watching (examples also include: Addison, Blair, and Lux).

I may not like the things that Cate is doing this season but it is so easy for me to relate to her. A lot of things that happen to her she asks for by lying but I still feel bad when things go wrong for her. I know she brings it on herself a little bit but I still don't want things to go bad for her. I just want her to be happy and finally start being honest with herself, because that is the most important thing for her

Rachel. I don't know, her lying last season really got to me. The biggest one was the way she lied about Baze kissing her when Ryan flat out asked her about it. I nearly got into a discussion fight back when that episode aired I was such a firecracker just a few short 8 months ago I just didn't understand where her need to constantly lie came from and while I still don't understand why its such a constant occurrence I'm understanding where it comes from and she's owning up to it much quicker now. I just wish she wouldn't only own up to things just because she's caught.

Ya I think she has grown up a lot but I really wish that she would own up to stuff before getting caught as well Cristal.

What I was really happy about was her not being mad about Baze telling Ryan. I really expected her to get pissed off and blame everything on him like always so I was glad that didn't happen
