Dazzling, I like the Glory speech too. Glory often amused me. I also especially liked sired inthe 80s Giles speech from The Gift.

I discovered most of my top speeches are related in that they either came from Buffy or Spike. I'll give my top 5 - some with only exerpts, because they are too long - and then a couple of winners up, because 5 is too tough. Many of these are not only due to the words, but in how they were delivered.

My top 5 in chronological order:

1) Spike's "Love's Bitch" speech from Lover's Walk:
You're not friends. You'll never be friends. You'll be in love till it kills you both. You'll fight, and you'll shag, and you'll hate each other till it makes you quiver, but you'll never be friends. pointing to his head Love isn't brains, children, it's blood... he covers his chest blood screaming inside you to work its will. I may be love's bitch, but at least I'm man enough to admit it.

2) Buffy's empowering speech to the watcher's council in Checkpoint:
excerpt: No review. No interrogation. No questions you know I can't answer. No hoops, no jumps... and no interruptions. See ... I've had a lot of people talking at me the last few days. Everyone just lining up to tell me how unimportant I am. And I've finally figured out why. Power. I have it. They don't.

3) Spike's "Every night I save you" speech from Afterlife:
Uh ... I do remember what I said. The promise. To protect her... If I had done that ... even if I didn't make it ... you wouldn't have had to jump. But I want you to know I did save you. Not when it counted, of course, but ... after that. Every night after that. I'd see it all again ... do something different. Faster or more clever, you know? Dozens of times, lots of different ways ... his voice softens. Every night I save you. (Though I almost replaced this one with the speech from Fool For Love quoted below.)

4) Buffy's "I believe in you" speech from Never Leave Me:
(excerpt) Be easier, wouldn't it, it if were an act, but it's not. You faced the monster inside of you and you fought back. You risked everything to be a better man... And you can be. You are. You may not see it, but I do. I do. I believe in you, Spike.

5) Spike's "You're the one" speech in Touched. (already quoted above)

I was happy. Wherever I was ... I was happy. At peace. I knew that everyone I cared about was all right. I knew it. Time ... didn't mean anything ... nothing had form ... but I was still me, you know? And I was warm ... and I was loved ... and I was finished. Complete. I don't understand about theology or dimensions, or ... any of it, really ... but I think I was in heaven. And now I'm not. I was torn out of there. Pulled out ... by my friends. Everything here is ... hard, and bright, and violent. Everything I feel, everything I touch ... this is Hell. Just getting through the next moment, and the one after that ... knowing what I've lost. They can never know. Never.

*My favorite Anya speech isn't the one from The Body, but the one from Triangle to Xander...
"Xander? If you ever decide to go, I want a warning. You know, big flashing red lights, and-and-and one of those clocks that counts down like a bomb in a movie? And there's a whole bunch of, of colored wires, and I'm not sure which is the right one to cut, but I guess the green one, and then at the last second "No! The red one!" and then click, it stops with three-tenths of a second left, but then you don't leave. She pauses. Like that, okay?" Sadly even more poignant to me after knowing that later on, Anya doesn't get her big, flashy warning, she just gets left, and in one of the worst ways possible.

I would include Xander's speech to Anya from Into the Woods, but knowing how the relationship ended, that one lost points in retrospect.

Rogue

I love those ones, too. You should have thrown in Angelus's speech from Passion though, in the honourable mention section!

Night Nymph

roguebailey - I agree that Angelus' speech in Passion is a good one. One reason I didn't mention it is that it has already been mentioned, but also I think because it was a voiceover. One of the reasons I chose most of the speeches above is because of the impact they had on the characters hearing it. The one main exception to that was the After Life speech, because Buffy was mostly too numb to get the affect of it, but the rest...

The "Love's Bitch" speech actually made Buffy re-evaluate her relationship with Angel (at least at that time) and shook her enough for her to admit out loud that her mortal enemy could tell something about her that her friends couldn't.

Buffy's empowering speech was mostly just a great sight to behold, but it also gained her some respect from the watcher's council and was a declaration that she got her confidence back - one that everyone hearing it could tell that she believed herself (and not that she was just blowing smoke).

Buffy's "I believe in you" speech affected Spike enough that it was what he held on to to resist the First Evil's mental torture and keep himself from breaking. That's a pretty powerful effect.

Spike's "Your the one" speech helped Buffy to get her fight back and gave her the strength she needed to go back to Caleb's vineyard. (The bookend to Buffy's "I believe in you" speech)

Spike's "Death is your art" speech certainly seemed to shake Buffy, and I think it might have been part of the reason that she questioned later - especially in Intervention - whether or not she was becoming too much of a slayer.

Buffy's "I'm in Hell" speech looked like it affected Spike - he didn't look like he knew what to do with that information, and it was likely part of the reason that he waited a while longer before he finally decided he was tired of playing "dead man's ear" and wanted more from Buffy.

Anya's bomb clock speech was mostly touching in retrospect as I mentioned. It certainly seemed to affect Xander at the time, but then again, I think Xander has a shorter attention span than some of the other characters, so I'm not surprised that it didn't have much of a lasting impact.

Wow I forgot about this thread. But I love so many of the choices. You have to give it up to the writers . No matter if you loved or hated certain storylines or couples or whatever, there were some amazing writers on this show. Even after all these years. It remains probably my most favorite because of how insightful and well written it was.

You guys didn't come all the way from England to determine whether or not I was good enough to be let back in. You came to beg me to let you back in. To give your jobs, your lives some semblance of meaning.
