The commentaries seem to be a selling point though, and I suppose they're extra work for the actors, so ...

There must be something about them because people do ask whether there'll be any commentary on a DVD set.

I find them distracting.

I see Space has bumped Voyager out of the 8pm weeknights time slot in favour of Doctor Who.

I caught some kind of marathon on Friday night. Took me by surprise. I don't know if that's a regular thing... if it were...

On tv or your own personal marathon? Any episodes you particularly enjoyed?

No, it was on TV. I don't have any on DVD or VHS.
And it seems it was a one time thing.

They showed Scorpion 1 & 2

Captain Kathryn Janeway: There's a path before me - the only way home. And on either side mortal enemies bent on destroying each other. If I attempt to pass through them I'll be destroyed as well. But if I turn around - that would end all hope of ever getting home. And no matter how much I try to focus my mind, I can't see an alternative.

...............................

Captain Kathryn Janeway: I keep looking to all these captains, my comrades in arms. But the truth is - I'm alone.
Commander Chakotay: If that moment comes, we'll face it together - and we'll make the right decision. You're not alone, Kathryn.
Captain Kathryn Janeway: Few years ago I didn't even know your name. Today I can't imagine a day without you.

......................

[while Janeway is reading the log entries of Picard and Amasov, Chakotay smiles]
Captain Kathryn Janeway: What's so funny?
Commander Chakotay: Er, nothing.
Captain Kathryn Janeway: You're smiling, obviously I've said something amusing.
Commander Chakotay: You sounded just like Amasov.
Captain Kathryn Janeway: What?
Commander Chakotay: Just now while you were reading his log, you were using his inflections.
Captain Kathryn Janeway: I did not.
Commander Chakotay: Yes you were. And before that you were doing a pretty good Picard.
Captain Kathryn Janeway: Was I?
Commander Chakotay: It's nothing to be ashamed about, echoing the greats. Ensign Hickman in astrophysics does a passable Janeway.
Captain Kathryn Janeway: [ironic] If we manage to survive the next few days, I'm gonna have a little chat with Ensign Hickman. Imitating the captain, huh? Surely that violates some kind of Starfleet protocol.

....................................

Captain Kathryn Janeway: Fight it Harry. That's an order.

....................................

Captain Kathryn Janeway: But there is an alternative I hadn't considered. What if I made an appeal... to the Devil?

.....................................

Captain Kathryn Janeway: Do you trust me, Chakotay?
Commander Chakotay: That isn't the issue.
Captain Kathryn Janeway: Oh, but it is. Only yesterday you were saying that we'd face this together, that you'd be at my side.
Commander Chakotay: I still have to tell you what I believe; I'm no good to you if I don't do that.
Captain Kathryn Janeway: I appreciate your insights, but the time for debate is over. I've made my decision; now... do I have your support?
Commander Chakotay: You're the Captain; I'm the First Officer, I'll follow your orders. But that doesn't change my belief that we're making a fatal mistake.
Captain Kathryn Janeway: Then I guess I am alone, after all. Dismissed.

........................................

[Tuvok, Kim and Chakotay encounter a pile made out of Borg body parts]
Tuvok: Curious.
Chakotay: That's not the word I had in mind.

Good episodes. And back to back, so no worries about missing the conclusion.

That first bit is something we should get in the opening of the Janeway/Chakotay thread. Would you like to cross post it? Thanks so much for bringing it over.

Okay. Doubt I could have stayed awake either.

I was thinking of Blood Fever the other day. I'll have to try and watch that one again sometime.

Janeway... worst captain. But Voyager wasn't great in its main characters in general. There was no character I really or cared about or was particularly interested in. Kim was relatable but not a very interesting character and The Doctor could be fun but only went so far. And those were the best of the characters. Tuvok and Chakotay were fairly good but not super-interesting and Paris and Kes were ok. Neelix ranged from annoying to OK. Janeway was on the annoying side, Torres was definitely annoying and 7 of 9 was awful. Still, the show was warmer than Enterprise, which was way too distant emotionally.

Worst captain???

Actually Voyager is the only ST series I ever watched continuously. I think Janeway was a great captain - especially under those extraordinary circumstances!
