Guess if you had one in your home, you'd want your programmes password protected. Some fantasies you just don't want to share.

I seem to remember the holodeck saying that it was in use, and officers using command over ride codes to get in. On the other hand, we seen some stories joined by other characters while they were in progress, Maybe you can set a security code when you start the programme as to whether you don't want to be interupted or if certain people would be allowed to join you?

Just waking up the sleepy thread to mention that Voyager is still my favourite Star Trek series. There are so many great characters and the story is so great. Plus, Janeway is just wonderful as captain. Love her dry style.

Thanks for the rejuvenation.

Did you have a favourite season? Personally, I prefer the later seasons.

I could never get into Voyager to the degree I got into TNG an DS9. I never found any of the characters interesting. The Doctor was entertaining enough, but I wasn't crazy about him. Kim was likable but a bit boring. Tuvok and Chakotay were reasonable. Basically none of the characters really interested me and some of them (Janeway, Torres, 7 of 9) I really disliked. Also, the basic style of the show struck me as less well done. DS9 had a sense of humor and fun and some interesting stories about politics and war and espionage. It was an enthusiastic show. TNG was just well done. Voyager struck me as kind of half-baked and unenthusiastic. It's more watchable than TOS and in some ways it's better than Enterprise (in other ways not). I do generally find Voyager watchable, but not massively engrossing.

I'm the same. I enjoyed Voyager, but TNG is still my favourite.

I'm the same. I far prefer the later seasons when we got 7 of 9 being more in tune with her human side and struggling with it, the Doctor becoming more likable and more depth and flesh to the other characters too. I also really like Janeway. I watched the special features on my DVDs and when I saw the first episode they shot with the other actress (forget her name now) I really didn't like her. I know if she had stayed as Janeway I wouldn't like the show half as much as I do now.

I can't really fathom Genuivive Bujold as Janeway either. I'm glad she quit and the character was recast. Season 1 Janeway could be rather stiff, but maybe that was in character. Guess with the blended Starfleet/Maquis crew she had to be sure that her position and authority wasn't questioned. She mellowed as she let her hair down and became comfortable in the role.

I really liked that early Janeway was stiffer and more authoritarian. But underneath you could see the glimmer of humour and warmth that came more to the fore in later series. I liked the evolution of the characters in a place where they were all each other had for so long that they did grow from a crew to a bunch of friends. I think that's one of the reasons why I liked the show so much -- because they were so isolated the characters had to grow and develop so much.

Really? With the melded crew and being stranded so far from home I can understand why she initially needed to assert her authority, but I found it hard to warm to her.
