“When Calls the Heart” tells the captivating story of Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), a young teacher accustomed to her high society life, who receives her first classroom assignment in Coal Valley, a small coalmining town where life is simple, but often fraught with challenges. Lori Loughlin plays Abigail Stanton, a wife and mother whose husband, the foreman of the mine, along with a dozen other miners, has just been killed in an explosion. The newly widowed women find their faith is tested when they must go to work in the mines to keep a roof over their heads. Elizabeth charms most everyone in Coal Valley, except Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing) who believes Thatcher’s wealthy father has doomed the lawman’s career by insisting he be assigned in town to protect the shipping magnate’s daughter. Living in a 19th century coal town, Elizabeth will have to learn the ways of the frontier if she wishes to thrive in the rural west on her own.

The series is inspired by Janette Oke’s bestselling book series about the Canadian West, and reunites Oke with Executive Producer and Director, Michael Landon, Jr.
I really enjoyed it. The first season has only 12 episodes and it's renewed for a second season.

Looks good, what station is it on? I never heard of it, so probably one I don't have.

I will have to check it out. I am always down for new period dramas.

Thanks to Emma Approved I am BACK into loving Emma again. I need to watch the BBC and the 90s version. I love both so much. I already watched clueless twice this week.

Which Emma film version do you prefer?

The one with Kate Beckinsale, Gwyneth Paltrow, or Romola Garai?

Gwyneth Paltrow, just a little bit more than the Romola Garai. They are both pretty equal though. I love that the Romola one was so long. I just grew up on the gwyneth one and watched it over and over so I love it just a little more.

I have the dvd for Persuasion (2007 one) Such a beautiful film, the characters, the music (violins) the stillness of it...all of it grows on you. I don't have to mention how handsome is Captain Wentworth...very much indeed

I can really relate to Anne's character out of all the Jane Austen ones.

I also own North and South. These two along with Pride and Prejudice are my top 3 favorites.

I think I'm the odd one out, but before Romola it was always Kate. She had a grace about her that expected Emma to always have, but most of all you could see she her heart was ALWAYS in the right place Romola is more of the definitive Emma - from immature to the perfect but passionate lady-like companion to Mr Knightley Gwyneth was meh for me

OMG. Persuasion just had to be one of the best miniseries to date everybody is perfectly cast, the writing is beautiful and the score to die for. The first time when I watched it I thought Anne might not make it! I was devastated

Anne/Gilbert (Anne series)- I grew up reading this series and I honestly think this is where I got my ideas about love from.

Rilla/Ford (Anne series)- Because 'yeth,' she was still 'Rilla his Rilla.'

Elizabeth/Darcy (P&P)- Just love them, specifically, the BBC version.

Mary Anne/Brandon (S&S) No matter which version on screen, I end up adoring the pairing.
