Does anyone else feel like the more recent appearances have been pushing there being something more between these two? I don't remember there being hints when he was a regular on the show.

I think that there are shippers of Olivia with just about every character that has been on the show, so they could be playing on that. But yeah it did seem they were hinting at something at the end of the previous season. A bit like they were trying to make it seem like Olivia had a choice between him or Elliot I felt

That is what I was wondering, if they were setting up a love triangle option however Barba is no longer on the show and Elliot is on a different show so it would not work so well.

I think they could have had possibilities, but I recall there being some mistrust over a case he did.

 She lost some trust with that, was what I took from their last exchange, so while they could have been heading towards a romantic storyline, I think that fizzled it out. |

I wonder if it had anything to do with Organized Crime coming to fruition. Knowing Elliot/Chris was returning opened the door for them to possible hint at those two going somewhere.

It could be. But again it was towards the end of OC's season season. Really OC triggered his return. So maybe they triggered his return to try make a little unnecessary tension to the will they or won't they story

It was also unresolved issues with Liv and Barba so maybe that just needed closure so while there was tension/passion it wasn't really romantic but translated that way.
