I love seeing her during interviews because Benson is mostly serious on the show so seeing Mariska just having fun is so adorably sweet!

Agreed. She's so different when she's not Olivia & gets to be in that happier, fun mood. But it is also nice when more of Mariska can shine through in Olivia too

That's a thing too that bothers me with 'fans' and actors. The actor is NOT the character they play. That for some reason can really get to me when a fan reports an encounter with an actor and they say something like, "Nothing like their character so and so", like DUH! They're NOT that character.
 For the most part Mariska loves her fans and is such a sweetheart! I can understand it in a way. You are used to a certain personality, so it can be a shock to find a different one. But they're actors, playing a part. Why would they be the same? Sometimes they are but at the end of the day they're actors. They've got their own personal identities too

Exactly. So when reading negative 'fan encounters' I really have to wonder who they expected to happen upon, the character or the actor.
 I feel like Mariska is just a genuinely sweet person and Benson is the harder/closed off personality.  |

 hard not to wonder that Exactly. Benson probably has it in her, but you've got to work to find it. It has been buried over the years with all she's experienced & seen. Then she's got some walls to protect herself after being hurt in the past too. Along with some walls to protect Noah as well __________________

& to not suffer in any way or be harmed from where he came from. But he could be shaped by it in a positive way, like she was pushed in a positive way to support survivors after what happened to her mother

Exactly! She's the prime example of not being a negative product of a situation.
Some people would do the opposite of Benson and harm others because of trauma's they've suffered, and then use that trauma as the excuse. But that's a choice. |

 Even when in later seasons of SVU that guy kidnapped her with the thread of rape, she didn't let that attack on her change her fighting stance. |

I like to block that out but that was incredible acting from Mariska, then it only empowered her & she kept pushing forward which was wonderful. It didn't break her because she didn't like it break her
