He was a total red flag. And if the heroine of your story is “meant to be endgame” with someone who’s as much of a red flag as Jess is, then you’re a poor storyteller. Of course, that storyteller ended up trashing her heroine so Jess as endgame comes as no surprise to me. Two crappy characters deserve each other.

Yeah, Rory was trashed too, but even then she didn't deserve someone as abhorrent as Jess.

Seemed to me that Rory's morals were pretty loose in the reboot. Three different guys in the same week, but even with that she does not deserve to have a bullying, lying partner like Jess. I don't care if she slept with twenty guys in one week, she still does not deserve a abusive ass like Jess.

I love this show so much but I could've done without Jess in the show. He really ruins seasons 2 and 3 for me.

I always wonder why ASP wrote such a miserable abusive character. and then tell everyone what a marvelous connection they had.

I can understand why ASP wanted Rory to have a bad boy boyfriend after Dean who treated her wonderfully, but did she have to make him abusive also?

The series was very popular with teen girls, I wonder how many of them thought having a jerk boyfried, because Rory had one and it was cool

It makes no sense at all. She couldn't seriously think he was a good guy considering how he was written. She must realise that a connection is irrelevant if abuse is involved.

Writing him in such a way that preys on women and their caretaker nature. He’s a character we’re supposed to pity and want to take care of and I believe that particular narrative is so dangerous and destructive.

4. He Doesn't Care About Rory's Interests

Rory is a true blue Stars Hollow townie. She dresses like a pilgrim, volunteers at festivals, and was almost Taylor's Ice Cream Queen. If you date her, you accept that, and you embrace that. Jess refuses to take her to the Winter carnival and only gives in when he finds out that Dean will be there. Deduct double points from Jess' swoonable score because not only did he initially refuse to do something that was important to Rory, but he then showed how insecure he was by being threatened by Dean's mere presence.
