More than how the show ended story wise, I think Scott, when saying it ended badly and bitterly, is primarily referring to how it ended for the cast and crew and what went on behind the scenes with the negotiations and uncertainty. After seven years, the show and all involved, deserved to know in time for a proper farewell and celebration.
We know that the show never got that, neither did the characters, actors, crew or the fans.
