I harvested the first crop from my garden. Just enough kale for a couple of salads - but it was really delicious. To get it any fresher, I'd have to bite it off the plants!

It's been years since I've been able to grow anything, and I just love being able to grow my own. :)

For once, my Kentucky Derby pick (War of Will) didn't come in last - or even close to last. For me, number 7 in a field of 17 is practically a win!

It was a field of 19, so even better!

I am SO enjoying my garden. Sometimes I go out there and it looks like the plants have grown to twice the size they were the previous day. Can't wait for some of the other things to be ready for picking.

I have slept...SO MUCH...the past few days.

My crazy couple weeks ended with the Kentucky Derby, or rather, my overnight shift right after the Kentucky Derby. I got home from that at 8am, was asleep very quickly on Sunday, and woke up at midnight. I was awake until 3am, just three hours, and then fell back asleep until 9am. I was awake until about 3pm and then was back asleep until 9:30pm. I never sleep this much. It just really caught up to me.

Rant time about the stupidity of my health care plan.

I have anxiety. That means I can't make phone calls. I needed to get an ETA on my health card since I just had to switch plans, so my mother called just to ask how long cards take to come in.

The lady on the phone asked her for my name, address, and phone number. Then she asked for her name. Why my mother didn't just lie and say she was me I don't know, but she didn't, so they said "well we can't talk to someone that isn't her." So then I took the phone from her, said "I'm her," and they were like "okay what's your name and date of birth?" I told them, and then they told me everything.

Like I get HIPPA. But like...it wasn't a separate phone call. They weren't going to give the info from my mom, but someone else taking over the same call, then providing super basic information that any of my friends know (name and birthday) they were convinced it was me? I called them on it, and they said "oh well we go on the honor system."

Molina Health, friends. If you're worried at all about the security of your info, don't use them.

It's crazy the things they make you do for HIPPA - and after it all of it, there's still no real security around your information.

I was in one of my doctor's offices about a year ago, and as usual, a nurse led me to a room and asked me some questions which she wrote down on a form - this office still uses paper forms for a lot of their records. She tucked the form in my file, put the file on the door and walked out, leaving me alone to wait for the doctor. Only she left the computer in the office on, with the records of another patient up on the screen. I could have read anything I wanted to about this other person, probably looked up anyone else and likely changed things all around or erased things if I'd had a mind to do something like that.

When the nurse came back I mentioned it to her and suggested, very nicely I thought, that she should probably be more careful to secure the computer before leaving someone alone with it. She acted like it was no big deal. While I loved the doctors in that office, I'm glad I moved and have a whole different set of doctors now.

Que Sera, Sera Doris Day. Though you've been off screen and out of the public eye for a while, I still remember growing up with your movies and television shows.

I've seen a couple of her movies! I definitely knew who she was although I can't say I'd known she was still alive.

I am the only one in this house (other than Eliza) for another week. Theoretically, I should get soooo much done. But all I've done other than go to Waitress and bathe my horse is sleep.

FoxPhile 05-15-2019 04:32 PM

I'm pretty sure I've seen all of her movies. She was also a big advocate of animal welfare.

I'm 99% sure I'm turning in my notice at one of my jobs on Thursday morning and I'm super freaking nervous about it because I've never done a formal resignation before. At previous jobs, it's either been the type of job where they expect you to just not come back after a school semester is over (and you just email them to be like hey don't schedule me byyye) or it's seasonal work where you reapply every year if you want to come back. Even the hotel in Kentucky, my boss could tell it was coming when my health spiraled and I just told him "I need to move back to my parents to get this taken care of," and "back to my parents" was 400 miles away so he obviously knew that meant I was leaving. This is my first "typed resignation letter, handed over in person in a previously scheduled meeting" type situation and I am losing. my. mind. over it.

FoxPhile 05-18-2019 04:39 AM

 Nicole. It's your decision and you have a right to make it, on your own time schedule. Chances are the boss will accept the letter and it will be no big deal. That's not any reflection on you or your performance, just that in virtually all businesses, employees come and go. It's routine. Hopefully he or she will be gracious and thank you for your work. And then you can high tail it out of there. ;)

The problem is this job really pushes the "we are all a wonderful supportive family!" narrative and with multiple people being out for surgeries now they're pushing us to pick up extra shifts to help out, and now I'm gonna be like "lol actually..."

On another note my dad texted me asking if I'm going to watch NCISLA tomorrow. The long answer: JAG ended perfectly and they're going to ruin that and I really hate revivals and bringing characters back and can things just end when they end please. The short answer:
