My favorite character on the show is the vet, Scott Cardinal. I really wanted he and Lou to work out.

I found Amy and Ty pretty insufferable in the books - but part of that may have been that it was book format.

Also - either I really need to read the last few books or the series goes differently than the book because I swear Lou and Scott ended up together. They were together when I stopped reading, at least.

I'm a little behind on the show, so maybe they do end up together in the end. But so far they've just had a brief romance in season 1 and then Lou went off in another direction.

TV shows that are based on book series are pretty bad about deviating from the books after the first season or two. True Blood is virtually unrecognizable from the Sookie Stackhouse series after about season 3.

My guess is if it has deviated from the books, they'll make Amy and Ty endgame - I do know that they don't end up together in the books,

Yeah that's very different then because

I sort of figured Ty and Amy would be endgame. I do hold out hope for Lou and Scott. Although on the show Lou is sort of high maintenance and I'm not sure the Scott on the show is really ready for that.

Lou and Amy are both high maintenance in the books, but in different ways. Lou is very career focused, and Amy tends to pull the "my life has been hard so how dare you inconvenience me" card a lot.

I think they sort of combined them into Lou on the show. That "my life..." stuff sure sounds like her. She's a tad whinny.

She definitely whined (mostly to Jack and Amy) about how being at Heartland was affecting her aspirations in the books, but the "woe is me" stuff was definitely more Amy. She also let Ashley get to her ~way~ too much (I didn't care for Ashley even as a nemesis because at least in the books she was very cliche) and was very melodramatic in general, at least in the first 15 or so books. I seem to recall her getting slightly more chill and willing to accept that she's not perfect in the later ones.

FoxPhile 10-17-2018 04:04 PM

Heartland is one of those shows where it feels like in the later seasons they couldn't quite figure out how to keep it interesting and they just sort of threw out plots to see if anything would spark.

Not sure if I expressed that well - it just feels like there isn't a good flow to the stories anymore.

WriterFreak001 10-22-2018 08:54 PM

I have noticed that there were a lot of repeated plots with various characters. For example, it seemed like every time one or two of the characters went on a road trip, they ended up getting in some sort of accident. I've seen ten seasons, and that's happened at least once in every season (except for maybe Season 1).

Anyway, just got back from West Virginia and being unplugged from social media and my computer for the weekend was really nice. I almost don't want to go to work tomorrow. And Friday, my surgery day, is almost here. Not sure how I feel about that.

FoxPhile 10-23-2018 04:55 PM

I suppose there's a cautionary tale in Heartland about leaving home. Apparently, it's not safe.

Wishing you well for your surgery, Kim!

WeBuiltThePyramids 10-23-2018 04:56 PM

Good luck, Kim!

Wishing you all the best for Friday, Kimberly. :)

I've lived most of my life sort of immune to the unusual dangers of living and working in DC. You get to a point where you just don't think about it. You go about your day with a certain caution and awareness, but you don't let it bother you.

I don't know why that's changed, but I want to get OUT of this place!
