I agree with you ..

Although I don't see why, when you think of his role as a poor, poor widower.
It's so sad for both of them. I don't say someone else should have died instead of Sybil but killing her was a horrible thing.
I don't intend for other characters to die on the show too. Character deaths are too traumatic for me ever since I started shipping and watching TV shows. It is not always good no matter what.

I have always thought that if JF knew that DS was leaving as well he needed to keep Tom to help the show move forward.

I still wish there could have been another way. I, like Andorra, was totally depressed after her death, which is mad really considering it is only a T.V. show haha.

I'm not sure I understand how that works since he was the one who wanted to get rid of the gap between the aristocrats and the poor. Saving Downton, is Tom's storyline starting from 3x07 does none of that. Why would he work towards keeping the gap he wanted to get rid of?

I didn't mean that, I meant that JF may have wanted to keep Tom as the upper part of Downton would be female dominated.

In terms of the gap, maybe JF is trying to work it so that Tom is effectively closing the gap by changing the management style of DA.

Just a thought, haha.

I don't know how any other way of dying will work for me, tbh. It's not mad to be depressed and mourn a TV character otherwise it's a superficial way of watching and I'm 100% sure that all of us here are passionate about the show.

Yes it's weird to be sad for a TV show but it's so well acted that we're just totally transported into their world and thus totally touched by what happened to them.

Since I was all over the place during Sybil death, that means the episode worked for me. I didn't like it but emotionally that really hit a nerve.

For me as well. To me it was the emotionalst moment on Downton Abbey by far.

I watched again the S2E8 yesterday and I really enjoyed it. Maybe more than the first time I saw it.
I especially loved when in her bedroom Sybil talked with her sisters and she said that she will marry Tom.

Mary's reaction disappointed me when she said "with the chauffeur" but the Sybil's reply was just so beautiful: she said "Yes" and showed how much she love him.
