I think the only reason why they haven't keep them in the show is because it's not easy to find twins as actors.

I think it's an interesting change they did for the show, they want her almost completely alone, losing the one connection she has for her past life.

KW said they changed a lot in the show and I think that is one of the best changes they did and we get to know Cassie's grandmother and maybe more about the past.
