We know that Cesare will build his own army like he said in the promo. And to build such an army he needs an alliance, so I think he will marry Charlotte to become the leader of French soldiers.

Is that reason enough for Lucrezia to be extremely mad? "Where is your honor" could refer to practically selling himself to France?
But on the other hand she married for political reasons herself...

So the only thing that really makes sense is Alfonso's death?

I noticed that she is wearing the same dress, hair and jewellery in the chess playing scene....so maybe that happens before the slapping?

She's also wearing the same dress in the scene with Vanozza where she says "Ambition rules this family". When she says this it's juxtaposed over Cesare riding through his army. Also isn't she outside when she says this and the next scene we see is Cesare raising his sword with the army.

Kat I wondered the same in the S3 thread if the slap had to do with him marrying Charlotte for the army because the soldiers colors resemble the French ones from last season.

Actually what makes no sense to my theory is that I was under the impression that Lucrezia knows about Cesare building the army unless she doesn't ? Maybe that's where the mistrust comes in.

And she certainly seems to understand what ambition means to the family. So, even if he didn't tell her all of his plans, I don't know if that would be enough for mistrusting him?

I think it has to be something more personal, like killing Alfonso.
