It's better than,"I told you so".I mean Caroline did warn her about this possiblity before.But Elena didn't want to listen.I bet Caroline was gloating inside

I don't know. I would have found it a bit strange if they were exchanging ILYs in season 3. Season 4 wasn't great for them but at least now they can let it all out and tell each other what's on their mind. In season 2 it felt like their friendship was born out of guilt on Elena's part because of keeping Caroline in the dark about vampires. Also it was strange to me how they suddenly started interacting a lot in early season 3 when Bonnie was MIA.

I feel the opposite. I thought their friendship, even born out of guilt, was developed really naturally, so I didn't think it was weird for Caroline to be closer to Elena than Bonnie in season 3 and I felt like season 4 kinda ruined their friendship.
