I think the CW will want to renew the show for at least as many episodes as it can get for syndication because that brings in a lot of revenue. There's also the international and online markets to consider. That means there's a good chance we'll get more than 13 episodes if they need a higher number to get into syndication. On a more personal note, I really hate the CW for putting the show into that death slot on Friday nights and then making the showrunners have to haggle for renewal. If CW didn't want to be put into this position then the suits running that bubble-gum network should've kept Nikita on Thursdays instead of bumping it to Fridays just to replace it with that Vampire Diaries wannabe The Secret Circle. That was a case of sheer nepotism making that show just because it's based on a book series from the same author of The Vampire Diaries. Also, I'm a little saddened by all the people who say "I won't watch anymore because Sean died." I honestly don't know why they would do that. He never fit into the mythology well enough to keep him beyond season 2, and it seemed like he was created as another "boyfriend" character. So they'd rather tank the series instead? I'd be upset of Owen died, but I wouldn't stop watching because of it.

True, but they have to be sure that some network would buy it. The international success helped it until now, but can we really be sure that another network would pick it up? A cable, maybe? The one thing that The CW can be sure about, is that Nikita it's an expensive show, that didn't so well in S1. That's why they put it on Friday: they probably wanted to let it die with very low ratings and then cancel it. The international success "saved" it and they probably didn't expect that.
And don't forget, that when S2 came, came also The secret Circle and the channel nedded to put it after its similar show, TVD, replacing Nikita. They kept renewing Nikita, but they don't think it can become a huge success (the ratings are almost stable), so they prefer to use the other weekly timeslot to new shows. At this point I think that moving it from Friday would damege it, even: people now are used to have it on Friday, it's a show at its third season, so not exactly brand new. It has its loyal fanbase and moving it in a different day (even after Arrow or successful shows) wouldn't bring new viewers.

Also, I'm a little saddened by all the people who say "I won't watch anymore because Sean died." I honestly don't know why they would do that.

I had some argument with shippers in another thread, so I'll say only this: they drop the show because they can't enjoy it anymore without Sean. I guess every person has different motivations to watch this show. I would watch anyway (I did it after Thalex), but other simply can't. It's a normal thing, it happens often - I kept watching Gossip Girl until the end because I had tiny hopes about my OTP (that didn't end up together), but I had the temptation to drop the show SO MANY TIMES because I wasn't enjoying it anymore.
Salex shippers dropped the show because what happened ruined completely the entertaining aspect of it. We watch a show because of the entertainement, it's tv. They don't enjoy it anymore like they used to di before, even if they liked other aspects of it.

I agree that it's probably too late to move Nikita to a new day, but the ratings did improve when they moved the show from 9pm to 8pm.

As for the Salex/Sean fans, I understand if they can't enjoy the show anymore, but the show is called Nikita, not Sean. I don't expect Owen to be the focus of the show either, but I also wouldn't want to tank the show or this board for everyone else who's still watching if his character were gone.

That was only the timeslot in the same day (Friday).

I do wish it were a full season, but I'll be okay with a shortened season as long as it's at least 10 - 12 episodes.

The most important thing, for me, was the proper ending. Having 22 episodes would have been great because yay more episodes! but also worrying, because the channel could have canceled it at any moment because of the low ratings...without an ending!

It will be hard to let this show go and I hope we'll have more episodes as possible. Anyway I'm happy for the ending: the writers won't disappoint us, I'm sure! And we'll cry like after the last episode (we'd do it anyway, even after 10 seasons!). By the way no one officially announced that the shortened season will be the last, only Craig said "finish"
I wonder if they could keep making it a short season (like a mid one). I know that there are shows who get always short seasons. It would be cheaper than a 22 episode one and it could let them programming new pilots.

I'm surprised they renewed also TCD. Everyone said it was doomed. The CW renewed a lot of shows this season! They canceled only TWO shows and ordered five pilots:

"Nikita" joins five new drama pick-ups, including sci-fi entries "The Tomorrow People," "The 100" and "Star-Crossed," period drama "Reign" and previously ordered "TVD" spinoff "The Originals". Additionally, The CW already renewed "Arrow," "Supernatural," "TVD," "Hart of Dixie," and "Beauty and the Beast." "The Carrie Diaries" has also received a second season.

And yeah I was surprised at TCD, but I guess they wanted to give it another chance because it's getting critical paise? Iit did launch at a bad time, it might do better if the second season starts with all their other shows

They hoped that TCD would have been the next Gossip Girl, because of the similarities (and writer). Probably the fans of SaTC didn't like it very much, who knows

I decided to not watch it after what Stephanie Savage did to my OTP in GG (Nate and Serena).

Probably they'll think about how to close the series. Even though he had a three seasons plan, I'm sure he changed his mind sometimes, in these years...or he had new ideas for developements, who knows

I trust him, anyway, and I trust also the other writers. It'll be so hard to let it go (just like right now for me it's so freaking hard to let go Smash and there it's even worse because they canceled it too much early, to me, after season 2 which will end next week)
