Yeah - I don't want Raj to be *that* guy. I don't want him to dump Emily just to switch to Claire. Unless - *maybe* - if he felt one of those earth-shattering connections with Claire, but I don't think that's the case. Right now, Claire is just slightly greener grass - and that mostly just because she's new and unknown while he's having doubts about Emily.

I know there are completely acceptable reasons to leave a person for another person. But Raj in general, it just seems so shallow, needy, and desperate. I'm not really liking how they're characterizing him here.

This is exactly what I just came here to post. If Raj only ends things so he can run directly to someone else, all that growth potential is just being thrown away.

I understand all the frustration with the lack of development for Raj and his relationships, but I think it is a delicate thing to handle. The writers have to be careful introducing a character to the established group. It seemed like in S7 they tried a few options, and eventually stuck with Emily, and perhaps now they've got all they can get out of her for Raj. I guess they can never predict exactly how a character will be received, and to their credit they haven't tried to force it.

It does feel like it's Raj's turn now though, after they've been focused on other relationships/characters so much. I think whatever girl he eventually ends up with, she's going to have to have something special about her that makes it feel right. (Can't help thinking of Lucy here.) Since he's always had this problem of thinking he's going to spend his life with whatever woman looks twice at him (like Dr. Lorvis!) maybe he'll meet someone who he doesn't particularly like at first... Just a thought. Anyway, I agree with a lot of you that he should probably be alone for a while at this point.

Yeah, I agree, it's definitely tricky. I don't think it would necessarily be a waste if Raj left Emily in the hopes of being with Claire - I think it would just demonstrate and emphasize Raj's need for more growth - since we do a lot of analyzing, we already see this and have for a while, but for the general audience, it might be needed to emphasize this first before actually having Raj accomplish it.

That's a good point - the general audience probably don't have any issues with what is/isn't going on with Raj, like we might. I think I said this in the episode thread, but if nothing else, Raj's reaction to Claire really shows it's not right for him to be with Emily.

I didn't like this breakup at all. Emily has been around for almost two years and they broke up in a matter of seconds. Literally. And he just did it because of Claire, a woman he barely knows. She didn't even show any interest in him.

It shows how much the writers ever cared for Raj/Emily (i.e not at all)

Like Raj said, once a girl is nice to him, he is planing the wedding.

I wasn't a fan of their speed break-up either, but it somehow fits how they handled their relationsship this season.
