S1 for the show added alot to what was in the book, they pretty much kept to it but added and changed small things. I liked the TV version more though
I kind of liked the TV version more too, but I'm not sure if that was because I saw the TV version first or not. That's the problem for me with watching an adaptation of something before reading the original, I can never forget the adaptation when I'm reading the original.

The TV version did go into a lot more detail in its storylines than the book did, though, since it had a whole season to flesh things out, and I think that contributed to me liking it more as well. That, and Alexander Skarsgard.

They did change a fair amount from book 2 to season 2. I was actually surprised how much was similar, though. I was reading/watching them both at around the same time this summer, and I was surprised that they kept following the books somewhat; I kind of thought they'd go off in a different direction from the books after season 1 like a lot of shows do.

I definitely want to read book 3 before season 3 of True Blood starts up. I love TB, but I'd like to experience Southern Vampire books as a separate story from the series.

I think that is my problem too I saw the seasons before reading the books, so if I read the series first than I might like it a bit more. I'm just finishing Living Dead in Dallas and didn't like it much. Guess its cause I fell in love with the character of Godric in the series and didn't really like his book version of Godfrey. Plus I liked how they had Jason in the church and that they had alot more to the storyline. Yes, Maryann was boring and didn't like her storyline but generally liked the season over the book

I might the 3rd book before the season starts up but I already have alot of books on my plate for next year

I've only read and seen the first book and first season so far, and I think I like them both about the same. I was pretty amazed with how closely they kept to the book because so many times book or TV versions really stray pretty far from the books they're based on.

I liked the reunion with Bill after thinking he was burned better on the TV show - I think they portrayed Sookie's distress better then in the book

Yeah, the show seems to be trying to stay fairly close to the books so far. I was initially expecting something more like Roswell, where the books and the show really move in different directions. I'm curious to see how close book 3 and season 3 are going to be.

ITA about Godric/Godfrey.
Spoiler:

I too was happy about the lack of the Maryann storyline in the book. However, I far prefer the way the show dealt with Lafayette's fate.

I got the third book, Club Dead, for Christmas. Looking forward to reading it, and hoping for lots of Eric to tide me over until TB season 3!

I'm a huge fan of this series and the show as well I have read all nine books and several of them more than once. Sookie is a brilliant heroine. So excited for the tenth book in May

So I caved and read all 8 of the first books. I wasn't going to read them till the seasons aired but I had to see what goes down with Sookie and Eric since season 2 of TB turned me onto the idea and I realized how hot Eric is with short hair! Anyway, I read them and don't regret not waiting and am that much more excited for TB and season 3 to air this summer. More so I'm excited for season 4 lol but oh well.
