They really were stupid about it. But I like that their playfulness came back in season 5 a bit. Too bad it was dropped again afterward.

Yes, the playfulness of them was really cute, then it got really serious. Season 6 and 7 didn't do them a lot of justice.

Seasons 6 and 7 didn't deepen their relationship any. It just moved them laterally... then Eric to Africa.
I mean, the celibacy storyline was okay, but it only had one layer to it. __________________

Their relationship just didn't seem to have the fun it used to have in season 6. It was all serious and it seemed to just draw them apart.

Season six was really Kelso's season... There are some great J/H moments in it (which is what I watch that season for ), but... m'eh.

Yeah ,it seemed like season 6 was all about Kelso and the wedding, which I think it was a big mistake.

It wouldn't have been hard to deepen E/D and J/H while still having Kelso's storyline. Instead of throw-away episodes like "Young Man Blues," give us something with meat. *glares*

I never understood what they did to them, I mean they were going to wait to get married and then all of a sudden in S6 they're planning their wedding, just didn't make sense. I wonder what would have happened if the show had decided to actually have them get married, S7 would have been way different, originally I didn't want them to even plan the wedding, so it didn't bother me that they didn't get married, but knowing now how they handled S7, I almost would have preferred to see them married.

I personally didn't get the wedding in season 6. In season 5, they seemed like they weren't ready to get married, and they were going to wait. Come season 6, they are setting a date and getting married!

Two words: Storyline desperation.
More words: Yeah, had they gotten married at the end of S6, the show totally could have played off them as a newly-married couple vs. Jackie and Hyde living the happily-committed but not-married couple (yes, all roads to lead to Zen with me ). __________________

They could have made the marriage work if that's truly the way they wanted to go. I was starting to get used to the idea and accepting their wedding, only to have Eric not show up! To me, Eric would never do that to Donna.
Lisa don't worry, all roads lead to Zen for me as well. __________________

Have Donna and Eric be married. He goes off to Africa in season 8, and Donna and Kitty relay through their dialogue Eric's antics in Africa, and we can see them from the neck down (hire a stand-in for Topher). And then have storylines where Donna is doing things for Eric in Point Place like learning how to knit a sweater from Kitty... something where she and Kitty are interacting based on their relationship with Eric. All it would have taken was some imagination. Could have been hilarious, actually, while staying true to the spirit of Eric and Donna's relationship. __________________

They could have taken their storyline in so many in character directions, but they chose not too. They took the lazy way out.

I'm seriously considering having Eric show up for the wedding in the comics instead of following the show's storylines. The show had established certain trajectories for each character, and after season 5, they veer off so much.
