Nice, I'll check some of those out if I ever feel like finally delving into hiphop. I can definitely see how Beastie Boys wouldn't be a good gateway (to anyone except rock fans looking for the easiest transition band at least).

Good start with the Wrong album! yeah, i like them because it's kinda punk with a twist. Nice, always happy to pm you what are considered essential hip hop albums (for example, liquid swords, 3 feet high and rising, madvilliany etc).

I've listened to it in its entirety since and thanks a bunch for the recommendation. Might take you up on that hip hop offer.

But yeah, back to metal. I've been listening to Slaves BC new album a lot in the past couple of days. They mix black metal with hardcore and a bunch of other things, creating a pretty ferocious sound. Here is a track from an old album to give you an idea what they sound like

Also, I completely slept on Virulent Depravity's Fruit of the Poisoned Tree last year, but it's quite good tech death imo.

unfortunately they had some of the worst sound I've ever heard at a gig. The bass was so loud that it pretty much drowned out everyone else for the whole set. It was ridiculous, I don't know how/why they didn't change it. He needed unplugging.

Epica were great though.

It was the third time I've seen them and it was the best one.

ah man, that is the worst when that happens. case of a bass player wanting the spotlight, probs refused to be unplugged :p

I still haven't seen Epica live, it is definitely on my bucket list!

I've been listening to these folk's new album lately. Very nice atmospheric black. If you like the genre, you might want to give it a chance.

One thing that annoys me about metal bands is that every gig they say “this is the best show we’ve ever done” and it’s such a snooze fest. Or it’s always “we love being here in the birth of metal, you’re the best yet” and it’s like I’m proud of my heritage but we’re blatebtly not because you have a new best every day.
