Yup. I bet that episode will relate to a lot this season. Last week's episode (3x12) also made a reference to BMW 1x04, as to how Topanga used to be.

1x05 If you're re-watching, what are your memories of this and do they hold up? No memory. What made you laugh most? The baseball game Cory watches at the very end, where the announcers are casually citing all the questions posed at the geography tournament. Cory's face. Morgan tossing out broccoli in the trash in the background How about them 90's? Eric is going to an Aerosmith concert Magnifying glass and maps in books Reference to MTV's "House of Style" and "Beavis and Butthead" Reference to Barry Bonds Jean jackets - Mom and dad's cool outfits Reference to newsanchor Connie Chung and supermodel Cindy Crawford Baggy pants Notable Quotes Minkus: "Sorry, my brain is out of service." Cory (re: geography contestants): "Are they working from another globe?" Alan: "Eric, I'm sorry and I know it's tough to hear this, but your mother and I are at an awkward age. We're parents, but we're not dead yet." Minkus: "Nothing against Cindy Crawford, but I'm more of a Connie Chung kind of guy." Overall Impression A relatively calm episode that doesn't stand out. I like how understanding Feeny was with Minkus' decision to not compete in the geography tournament, allow Cory to go in his place knowing he wouldn't win, and of course Feeny counting Cory's improvement in his classroom grade as an equivalent prize. It's not about his honor and accolades, it's really about the students. I guess we get to see more of Feeny's core in this episode. And I appreciate that Minkus has a stable sense of identity too, able to be cool or go back to his nerd self at his leisure, and feel comfortable with the latter. Cory being adorably overdramatic Cory: (smacking forehead repeatedly) "I'm hitting my head. I'm hitting the northernmost part of my head." Parallels to GMW? Geography competition, like with Smackle and Farkle competing over, erm, science? Yeah, I need to re-watch Girl Meets Smackle. Cory and Shawn suggesting to Minkus to change his image, and him considering it - like the Farkle bullying episode, but much lighter in tone (and returning to original form in the end). Other Stuff Lesson: If you push yourself to do your personal best, it's a win. Sometimes a man doesn't know himself until he's walked a mile in another man's shoes. Appreciate the parents you have; It could be much worse.

Well we did 7-8-9 last week, so yeah, 10-11-12 this week, although most everyone is catching up still, which is quite alright

And yeah, I've done 1-6 so far, if I can just get my notes up already, and then I'll have 7-12 to watch and write for. Once I finish my house cleaning I'll have more time

Yes, seeing the Minkus/Farkle connection is one of the best parts.

1x06 What made you laugh most? Minkus' very advanced paper airplane Feeny giving out rulers for Halloween How about them 90's? The episode title: "Boys II Mensa", a play on music group Boys II Men "I'm cooked!" At his new school, Cory will be "searching for Bobby Fisher", the child chess prodigy with a movie made about him of the same name Reference to Fabio Notable Quotes Minkus: "Second? As in the context of 'not first'?" C: "… But now my parents are involved, and I don't like lying to them." S: "You don't? 'Cause it gives me a little rush." C: "The lady's gonna be here in half an hour and they're gonna give me another genius test and then they're gonna take me away. So I just called you up to say goodbye. Or, as geniuses say, "goodbye in Latin"." C: (on his average intelligence) "Yep, that's me. The lights are on but nobody's home." Feeny: "I'm 'cool'. God help me." Overall Impression Meh. It was an okay episode. Good for learning more about Feeny's honorable qualities. Parallels to GMW? Cory assumes Shawn was waiting for him to get out of detention. In GMW S1, Riley stays and waits for Maya to be done with detention, as she assumes she would. Cory pummels Eric with a ball-shooting gun Other Stuff The lady who gives the genius test is a character actor who has played that bit role numerous times on different shows. Apparently, this is when Eric gives Morgan the lasting nickname 'Weasel'. Lesson: You don't have to ever try to be something you're not.

1x07 If you're re-watching, what are your memories of this and do they hold up? Ah! Rue McClanahan as Grandma! I definitely don't remember this one. New adult perspective: When Cory tells his grandma that the baseball card he was going to get signed by going on the trip that she bailed on is his favorite card and 'the signature would have just ruined it anyway', no big deal … this is actually quite a sad small moment depicting how kids sometimes adapt themselves to express how they feel less honestly in order to protect a relationship with an adult who consistently lets them down. What made you laugh most? Eric's attempts to use Morgan to his dating advantage. Morgan's subsequent turning of the tables, using Eric's plan for her own manipulation. How about them 90's? Eric lusts after the girls in the Victoria's Secret catalogue "Eric, the Lip Master … " Cal Rifkin, baseball player … 90s? Notable Quotes Feeny (to Eric, re: his date night suggestions): "Somewhere in that cup of bile, I heard 'dinner and a movie'?" Cory (to his mom re: dad and Shawn going fishing): "Did you know your husband's cheating on me with someone else's son?" Eric: "How long have you been up there?" C: "Long enough to see you swap spit with a Feeny." Overall Impression I can see this is where BMW starts to blend comedy with more serious subjects, ever so slightly. Without getting weighed down at all. A pretty good episode. Other Stuff Check out how effortlessly Eric swings his whole body over the couch to sit on it Feeny's niece is played by Keri Russell … and she's a really good actress in this early guest role. Lesson: Adults can be unreliable, but it doesn't mean they don't love you.
