Could have and should have. Still can't believe they did so poorly. Believable and logical isn't too much to ask for.

They must know that, too. There's no excuse for this. I could almost understand it if she had left it until the last minute to tell them she was leaving and they'd had to quickly rewrite the end to give her a rushed departure, but they've admitted she didn't, that they knew with plenty of time.

It really isn't fair to her at all. I kind of wonder how much of this exit came out of Derek's seeming desire for her to change her mind or at least for her to come back in the future. Even taking that into account though, no excuse, there were better options that would have left her reappearing possible, as we've mentioned in other threads.

It's not really excusable but the part of me that is always suspicious of all showrunners is questioning whether it was a failed manipulation attempt - trying to get her to stay so her character doesn't go like that.

It's hard not to, especially with what went on at PD. I mean, there's a good chance that that is limited to PD, but I do wonder based on how it played out and that they knew in advance. It kind of reminds me of the way Peyton on OTH was trashed after Hilarie Burton quit, of course, the situation is different, but destroying characters when an actor decides to leave makes me wonder, it's never needed, so I always question why.

I know what ya mean! They could've done so many nice exits for her, either she takes that job with other paramedics....or another job besides that one....would we would've taken anything!

Yep, there were so many better options, so it's probably natural that their opting to all but destroy the character instead of picking one of them makes people suspicious. There was no valid reason to go there...
