Marissa was such a badass. This current mess of PLL girls and CW randoms could never.

Marissa was generally pretty authentic to herself in a way that doesn't seem to come to most teen shows these days. Also, she wasn't a particularly petty person. She was always nice to Ryan's randoms, lol, and like genuinely nice too. Like bringing Theresa a party dress that one time.

There was actually an overall authenticity about The OC that is lacking in nearly all the teen shows after it. I think Mischa and much of the cast really personified the location and the feel of Orange County without it coming across like a gimmick or overly stylized.

Yeah, I'm not that versed in teen soaps these days, but The CW barely even has them anymore? It's mostly supernatural stuff and Jane the Virgin.

I feel very starved for character dramas, which is part of why This is Us is speaking to me. Still, even in an age of teen dramas, I felt like Marissa stood apart. For all the claims of her drama, she didn't tend to get bogged down with a lot of the petty problems that writers throw at other teenage female characters.

I didn't really watch the last couple seasons of OTH (I remember getting very fed up when Haley's sister and her boyfriend were shot and somehow survived despite not getting found for like 48 hours) but I was rooting for it to keep going on principle, lol, like "That's how long you can have a job if you don't kill off your lead female."

I don't really have much memory of OTH overall, aside from that school shooting episode.

I remember Sophia and Hil's chemistry, and Peyton having some epic burns!

And on an OC note, I very much can remember McG's influence on particularly the first season of The OC when watching Lethal Weapon. The general gloss and shine of how the show is directed feels familiar, lol.
