Here we go with my Tabula Rasa write-up!
Jack is looking after Edward Mars. Mars shows Jack a picture of Kate and tells Jack that she is dangerous. Then we cut to Kate who is walking with Charlie, Boone, Sawyer, Shannon and Sayid. Kate looks sinister due to what we now know about her. The group sits by the fire and there is friction between Sayid and Sawyer. Sayid tries to piece together how the plane crashed. Sayid decides that it's a bad idea to tell the rest of the group about the French woman's message because the news would destroy hope. Jack continues to treat Mars while chatting to Hurley. Hurley finds the photo of Kate. The group fights over the gun and decide that Kate should carry it. In a flashback, Kate turns up at a farm and the farmer gives her a job. Back at the island, the group comes back to the beach and Sayid tells everybody that they didn't get a signal. He organises everyone to triangulate the signal. Kate tells Jack about the French woman's message and Jack asks her if there's anything else she wants to tell him. She doesn't answer him. Kate asks Jack if Mars said anything and Jack says that he didn't. Jack tells Hurley about his conversation with Kate and that they need to get medical supplies. Jack looks in the plane for the supplies and finds Sawyer in there. He is looking for girlie mags and smokes. Jack and Sawyer have different ideas about treating Mars. Charlie helps Claire to gather supplies and get to know each other. Hurley comes across Kate and is scared of her. He notices that she has a gun. Kate goes up to Edward Mars and watches him. In a flashback, Kate is planning to leave the farm but promises the farmer that she will wait until the morning to leave. Back at the island, Mars wakes up and tries to strangle Kate. Jack comes along to save her. Jack refuses to kill Mars even though he is in a lot of pain and will die anyway. Other people don't understand his decision. In a flashback, the farmer is driving Kate to the station. Back at the island, Michael asks Walt about John Locke. Walt is upset with Michael about losing Vincent. When the rain stops, they both go to look for Vincent. Something chases Michael and he comes across a topless Sun. Both of them are embarrassed. People can hear Mars screaming in pain. Sawyer is telling Kate that he's glad that he's not the one with the gun because whoever had it would be obliged to put Mars out of his misery. Mars warns Jack that Kate is dangerous. In a flashback, Mars chases Kate and Kate takes the wheel from the farmer and the truck crashes. Kate saves the farmer and is captured by Mars. Back at the island, Mars asks Kate what the favour was. In a flashback, Kate asks Mars for a favour. The plane crashes before she can answer him. Back at the island, Kate tells Mars that she wanted the farmer to collect the reward money for her capture. Mars asks Kate if he's going to die. She tells him that he is. Hurley tells Jack that Kate has a gun. They see Kate outside Mars' tent. They hear a gunshot. Sawyer comes out of the tent. Mars is heard choking. Jack has to go in there to finish off Mars. Jack is angry and walks past a devasted Sawyer. Locke finds Vincent and lets Michael take the credit. Kate tries to tell Jack what she did but Jack says that it doesn't matter and that everyone in the crash should be able to have a clean slate. The ending is atmospheric with people being tender with each other. Until we see Locke who is looking sinister. I thought this was a great episode which looked at the personalities of the characters. We see that Kate has a caring side when she risked getting captured to save the farmer, We also saw that Sawyer has a caring side by his reaction to not killing Mars straight away. We saw that Jack still acts like a doctor regardless of the fact that it's not practical to use up the limited drugs on someone who is dying anyway. Everybody is trying to adjust to what has happened in their own ways. |

Walkabout
We see the aftermath of the crash from Locke's point of view. Vincent's barking wakes up everybody. There is somebody in the plane. Jack think's it's Sawyer but it isn't. There are some boars inside the plane and everyone runs away. So the boars don't eat the bodies, Jack suggests burning the bodies but Sayid disagrees saying it would be disrespectful. Kate points out that Jack hopes someone will see the flames and rescue them. Sayid wants to triangulate a signal. Walt wants to see Locke but Michael isn't keen. Sawyer and Hurley fight over peanuts. Hurley says that they have run out of food. Locke throws a knife into a chair and says that they should hunt boar. Flashback Locke is playing a military game over the phone at work. His boss doesn't like him doing that. On the island Kate is going hunting but Jack doesn't want her to go. Kate tells Jack about triangulating the signal. Michael asks Sun to look after Walt while he goes hunting. Claire asks Jack if he wants to hold a memorial for the dead passengers. He isn't interested and Claire decides to do it herself. Kate, Michael and Locke try to hunt boar. Charlie does drugs. Shannon gets Charlie to catch some fish for her. Boone asks Jack if he wants to talk to Rose who is sitting on her own. Jack goes to talk to Rose. There are signs that people are expecting Jack to take charge of things even though Jack hasn't asked for that. The boar hunters hear something and a boar comes out of the trees and charge at Michael and Locke. They are hurt. Flashback Locke is playing a military game with a colleage and Randy the boss makes fun of Locke. Locke says "don't tell me what I can't do!" On the island Locke accidently calls Kate "Helen". Locke decides to go after the boar while Kate takes Michael back to the beach. Locke tells Kate "don't tell me what I can't do!" Charlie and Hurley try to fish. This is very funny. Claire finds a photo of Nadia and gives it to Sayid because it had his name on it. Rose talks to Jack about her husband Bernard. Flashback Locke talks to Helen over the phone. He tells her about the holiday he wants to take and he tells her that he wants her to come too. She declines because she can't socialise with a customer. Poor Locke. On the island Kate and Michael go back to the beach. Walt greets them and is concerned about Michael. Then is he concerned about Locke. Sawyer greets Kate. She isn't interested. Shannon is unconcerned about Locke. Boone tells Charlie he is sorry about Shannon's behaviour. Charlie realises that he has been conned. Jack tells Rose about the plan to burn the fuselage and the planned memorial. Rose tells Jack that Bernard is alive. Jack sees a man in a suit by the trees. Kate gives the broken transceiver to Sayid and he is angry. Kate convinces him to try again. Jack and Kate talk. She tells him that Locke has disappeared. Jack again sees the man by the trees. Jack goes to find out who he is and sees Locke who has caught a boar. Locke looks menacing. Claire leads the memorial. Charlie takes drugs. Michael questions Locke about whether he saw anything. Locke says he saw nothing. Flashback Locke is in Australia trying to go on a walking tour. The tour operator won't let him because of his "condition". Locke gets angry and eventually we see that he is in a wheelchair. I hadn't expected this so it was brilliant drama. Locke shouts "DON'T TELL ME WHAT I CAN'T DO!" Flashback to crash Locke stands up and is amazed and happy. Locke runs to help Jack look after victims. On the island At the memorial, Locke's wheelchair is burned. Locke looks very happy. I loves this episode because Locke's story is interesting and we see the characters' personalities emerging. |
