I just watched the pilot again, while reading the script. It's interesting to see the little bits that were cut out, dialogue added, and scene swapped. Try it sometime.
I'm a huge fan of Dr. Cox, so my notes are very Cox-centric. I noticed that his very first scene with JD produced his first attention-getting whistle. He called JD three separate names: Pumpkin, Newbie (twice, solidifying the nickname) and then actually calls him JD during the emergency chest tube scene near the end. Dr. Cox pats JD on the shoulder with both hands after telling him he might kill someone while on-call. Later on during the emergency he goes to pat him, thinks better of it and storms off. What made him change heart between those scenes? Did he realize that JD was going to continue to be the scared and needy kid, and damn it all he'd better buck up now? Something non-Cox - Elliot in glasses. What the? Favorite quotes: “And from now on, whenever I’m in the room you’re definitely not allowed to talk.” -Dr. Cox “One way or another, everyone stops bleeding. That’s so deep.” -Turk (We joke about this fact at work sometimes. It's something people in medical professions say, I guess. Hilarious.) “Door’s broke. Every fifth time or so it don’t open.” -Janitor (Funny how he has a sort of hickish accent, his grammar making him sound uneducated. Is it an act from the beginning maybe?) |

I just re-watched the episode to add my two cents. I love almost everything about this episode. It's just Elliot who really annoys me. I didn't start to like her until later on in the series. She was just too much here. I loved JD, Carla, and the JD/Cox scene when they saved the patient and kind of bonded.
Hmm, my favorite things would be the deer in the headlights scene and when the lady's head pops up after Turk tells JD he loves him. Oh also, "Of course if the patient is deceased, you can tell him whatever you want." And JD's fantasy son saying "You're the man!" And then "our date is totally cancelled." My only question is why in the My Finale would JD say he put the penny in the door? The first episode doesn't imply that at all. |

Oh, the deer fantasy.
I think he was scared the Janitor would react badly (as he did no matter what ). __________________

New thread is up, so detopping this. But anyone is free to continue talking about it though. The pilot is quite timeless.

i love that they used "please forgive me" in the scene of JD struggling with his first night on call.

So since I still dont have season 7 I decided Id rewatch from the pilot cause Im missing my Scrubs dosage
Aww I want you to want me, I love that song and ouch how he pours coffee over his face, JD has the weirdest daydreams right from the start 'you've been like a father to me' aww how thats actually true 'one way or another everyone stops bleeding, that is so deep' 'no it isnt' 'its a little deep' aww poor Turk, that is so not deep Dr Kelsos attempt at smiling and being nice to JD for the better half of the episode kinda freaks me out So, all in all, great introduction to the show and the characters, god I love Zach Braff cant wait to rewatch the rest. __________________

I actually didn't like the pilot the first time I saw it, but the more I watch it, the more I enjoy it. It really was a good way to set up not only the theme of the show but also the relationship dynamics between the characters. I think most of the relationships that were important at the end of s8 were important in the pilot as well. At least in relation to JD's character.
Ashlie, I love the running fantasy too. The way JD pours the coffee over his face is hilarious. I crack up every single time I watch it! I think it just took me time to get used to JD's crazy thoughts. His fantasies really made this show stand out from other comedies. Quote:
I completely forgot about that scene until now. Poor Turk, he tries so hard to not just be another "dumb surgeon" as Cox would put it. Btw, I don't believe we've met broken|smile. I'm Nic. I see you're a FE shipper too. Something else we have in common. __________________

Hey Nic, Im Sheida F/E they're my ultimate OTP
I can understand not liking the pilot at first, its a bit different and as you said JDs weird daydreams might take a bit getting used to though as an introduction to the characters and to the relationships between them, its a great episode, though, for me, out of the first four episodes I watched yesterday, comedy-wise I just gotta go with episode 2, though they were all great. __________________
