I do love the film. I know I sound like I hate Rachel, but I think Naomi gives a great performance. Rachel's self-indulgence but also determination to solve the mystery is really well played by her.

Oh. OK. Have you seen this current remake of ''The Grudge''? I haven't or seen whatever previous versions of it.

^^ I've seen the trailer for the new one and it looks interesting and I like the previous 'Americanized' trilogy, and the original.

I don't have high expectations either as it's some one else interpretation of the idea that makes the Grudge what it is.

Let us know what you think I haven't seen it.

I re-watched the first two Rec movies. They work perfectly together like the first two Alien movies, but I think the first Rec is superior to the second. Better cast, more sympathetic characters and far more suspenseful

I watched the New "Black Christmas" and it's so not what you think it's going to be! Turned out be a nice surprise watch. Although does start a little slow.

Just watched The Horror of Frankenstein and it's really fascinating to analyze the completely different ways in which Ralph Bates plays Victor in this, compared to Kenneth Branagh's depiction in the 1994 movie based on Shelly's novel.

Bates - cold, calm, arrogant
Branagh - emotional, fragile, charismatic

I like that there's a difference in these portrayals, because ultimately when you consider the events that transpire and the mess that Victor gets into with his taboo creation of ~life~, both types of personality traits can be considered valid and both movies are very true to the balance of sympathy and horror that the creature itself stirs in the audience. You probably should despise Victor given how he took life into his own hands but underneath it all, he is broken and desperate for science to make sense of things.

In a summary: I love the story and both Bates and Branagh are brilliant actors.

Oh, and Robert De Niro gave the scariest portrayal of the creature I have ever seen. His appearance and his rage were rightfully given center stage by Branagh (who directed the movie) and it's a true strength of the adaptation.

Re-watched The Ring for the millionth time,

I will never change my opinion that the opening scene with Katie and Becca is the best opening scene to a horror film ever. It even tops SCREAM for me.

I don't know if any of you have watched Mercy Black, but here's my review:

Not worth your time First half is boring, second half is a chase involving some woman scorned and a supernatural creature with a pumpkin head that has the lamest fake out death ever.

Here's a review of a docuseries exploring the histories of two all-time great horror films:

I watched a few horror films over the past week.

The Gallows and The Gallows Part II. Part II was immensely better than the first!

Brahms: The Boy II was really good as well.

Kinda weird how I've seen Candyman so many times over the years, yet I've only just realized that Helen is most likely a reincarnation of Candyman's past love.

I knew he was obsessed with her because she looked like the drawing, but it's the first time it's really occurred to me that Helen is her in another life.
