Another musician has died - George Michael... Can 2016 just go away already!? The world has lost so many of the greats this year! Hopefully this final week of the year no more will leave us.....

I know. And Carrie Fisher, too.

I realize she wasn't LGTBQ+ herself, but she certainly was a supporter of the community.

Another thing, too: Alan Thicke, Carrie Fisher and George Michael all died way too young of heart attacks or heart attack-related causes. So, you know, take care of yourselves, everyone!

ETA- And now Debbie Reynolds has also died. Jesus. Why can't it be 2017 already? Enough!

I half expect someone HUGE to go now such as Queen Elizabeth 2nd or some world leader...this year has been so bad for celeb deaths and terrorist attacks. 3 days to go.

Rationally, you know that it's not the year that did it. But, good lord, it seems like some sort of conspiracy or something.

I've never met a straight person, including myself, who fears a homosexual. Certainly there are those who hate gays for whatever reason, but the phobia attached to every criticism, or argument against homosexuality, has always bothered me. That seems like the type of word fundamentalists would come up with, to shut down any counterpoint an atheist may have to argue.

Well, that's certainly one very literal interpretation of the word homophobia.

But saying anyone "hates" gay people for "whatever reason" is pretty much saying that this person is afraid of gay people, isn't it? I mean, why else would you hate anyone based on that stupid a reason?

Besides, and more importantly, the commonly accepted understood meaning of the word "homophobia" has taken on a far more complex conotation nowadays. So people can trip over the specific denotation of the word all they want, it still points to the same phenomenon.

It fits considering homophobes are afraid that giving the LGBT community any rights means their rights are going to be affected.

I think you're right.

I'm just hopeful that the younger generations are not growing up with those antiquated ideas that there's one way or a right way to be, you know? Everyone needs to be more concerned with being their true, happy selves and less concerned with fitting into someone else's mold.

Okay figure this is the right place to ask.

I want to look into some lesbian fiction but I don't know where to start in terms of books. Came across a few that sound interesting but not sure.

If you guys have any ideas that would be great. Preferably no young adult novels.
