"Jonathan Jackson's character Avery Barkley, when I originally conceived that character, he was just a jerk. He was really just going to be there as a foil to make you wish that Scarlett was with Gunnar," Khouri tells. "But Jonathan Jackson is so talented and is such an incredible person that as the season went on it became really difficult for me to watch him play that character, and so I said, 'Guys, we need to give him new territory. He's too good, and I just don't want everybody hating him.'"

As Season 1 progressed, Avery was dealt some harsh hands that knocked his character down a peg or two. "We started edging him into a different world where he had learned some lessons," Khouri says. "So this season he is much more of a presence as a guy who's made some bad choices for himself and learned some hard lessons. And he's just a much cooler guy."

Avery can thank his portrayer, Jackson, for the personality makeover in Season 2. "For me personally, Jonathan is such an incredibly wonderful person in life," Khouri says. "A couple of our writers saw him perform at the Opry in Nashville one night and they called me and were like, 'Oh my god, I know exactly what you mean. You're right, he can't be the jerk anymore.'"

Never heard of any of these people nominated with JJ besides Slater. I assumed they are newcomers to the industry as I normally know the names even if it is something I don't watch.

they aren't. Especially Christopher Eccleston for me I know him because of doctor who. He played the ninth doctor. But yeah I have seen at least one thing with each of the noms just not the thing they are nominated for except Nashville of course.

Andre Holland, I know because he was in Selma. Rufus Sewell has been in a lot of things- he gets cast as a villain a lot, lol. But yeah, being in same category as Christopher Eccleston is no small thing. They're all really good actors.

he sure does. Everytime I see him in something I say as soon as he is onscreen ''bad guy'' But yeah it should be an honor for both he and Hayden because the people in their categories are amazing. And I know Clayne from ''A walk to remember'' own that movie on dvd so I know him from that.

Oh, now that I see Clayne's face, I totally know him, lol. He had a multi-episode arc in Justified too, and he was on The Glades, and he was actually on Roswell back in the day.
