Usually when the shows end they bring back the old characters, we didn't get such a chance. Bash Happy about Frary spoilers, after all it had to ended happily. Perhaps they had old footage or brought Toby back on set. So angry about Catherine though!

Present Story:
That Catherine and Narcisse bedroom scene really weren't needed. It had nothing to do with anything, they could have spent that valuable time wrapping up their storylines. I really didn't like Charles and Henri in it either. So pathetic.

Flash Forward:

Not too sure how i feel about it. I knew it weren't going to be amazing, but I guess I just expected more. I wanted the re-unition with F/M to be better than that and for them to use better flashbacks than they did. The song was also a poor choice for 4 seasons worth of memories.

I loved that they finally brought about Elizabeths costume. I've been waiting for that neck brace, pale face and stunning hair. Mary... not so much. She looked the same. The make-up department could have at least aged her a little bit for goodness sake.

EDIT: Bash was in it for a flash back and no, none of the characters had closure except Mary, which I guess is all that matters considering this show is about her. Still annoying though.

It was a good episode for Reign, but it did feel rushed as a finale and I think the flashforward was added into the script last minute when they learned about the cancellation. Only that can explain the fact that no character had closure other than Mary and it's a bit disappointing, if I'm being frank.

The whole final montage was nice and left me in tears but I'm not sure it was needed considering that maybe that time could have been used to give said closure to others? Besides, I didn't need flashbacks from season 3 and even 4 I think, it's been two minutes, I remember it all thank you very much. If they'd stuck to season 1 it would have left a better impression of how Mary was only ever happy in France.

Anyway, Reign was always a little silly and it does have a history of clumsy choices. It's part of why I both loved and hated it at times. I feel blessed for seeing Francis again, it might be because I wasn't spoiled but I didn't expect it.

It was a hell of a ride. It's been a pleasure, guys.

I'm happy i've stuck it out until the end, i must say. I'm one of the only original people to do so here at FF. I was hoping I'd see old members come back for it.

Aw, me too. I think a lot of fans dropped the show after Francis died, which isn't entirely deserved to be honest because in terms of writing seasons 3 and 4 were actually better than season 2, which had Francis in every episode. Besides, no love interest Mary ever got since could compete with Francis on any level, which was made quite clear both by the writing and the end we finally got. It's true that I haven't been as emotionally attached to Reign after it (or after season 2 actually) as I'd been before, but I did keep watching quite regularly. At least Francis's death was accurate, there was no escaping it. The real fault lies with some writing choices that were made and were just bad.

TBH i don't understand why people felt the need to quit when he died. After all, when people started watching this show, they knew he was going to die and that the show was about Mary.

I think it can get more complicated than that. It happened to me with Jane the Virgin, I had no idea I'd grow fond of Michael to the point I'd quit the show when he died because without him a lot about the tone of it, what I essentially liked about it just went away.

I often do that too! But I was afraid of tumblr spoilers so I just went for it, I was too curious anyway.

Completely agree. I wasn't expecting it at all and it definitely made it that much more special. I always loved them together but forgot just HOW much until we saw him again waiting for her. Special moment and considering the circumstances I couldn't be happier with how they were able to end Mary's story in the short notice they got.

Can't deny being really sad over Catherine not getting a real ending or some of the others like Luc and Claude...or even Greer and James. You could tell that after finding out they were cancelled, I don't think any of the French court was given an alternate ending. That all seemed like complete set up for S5.

Maybe there is freedom in death. If you can see the ones you love again.

She suffered for so long. But it's over now. She has found peace.

Not a bad way to end things.

I couldn't believe my eyes. It's not that I'd put it past the writers after everything I've seen, but it's such a waste to have her end like that. I understand maybe they thought they'd have another season, but isn't it better to be careful, write something better just in case they'll have to wrap things there? I can't imagine they never once suspected they'd get axed once they reached syndication.

Hey, I'm not gonna lie: I cried. I was literally in tears. I was expecting to enjoy the episode, not to be hit right in the feels lol.

I thought about it a little, of course if the viewer is Catholic they're likely to believe that's afterlife and there's nothing more real but even if you don't believe that you know she does. Perhaps she's just, like, hallucinating Francis right as she's passing from life to death but that's where her peace lies. I think it's really touching and beautiful. She's finds herself where she was her happiest: with him, in France, young and free. I might cry again while I finish typing this

So...there it is. The end of a very significant part of my life. It has been an immense pleasure sharing this journey with all of you. It might be the end of the show, but not the end of this fandom.

Overall, I really enjoyed the finale. I'm still processing and drying my tears, but I will try to organize my thoughts.

Scotland
- The return of James! That was so sweet. And I loved that James was the one to recover the baby and bring him back to Mary, and the she named him James in honor of her brother. I for one am glad that Reign never showed James betraying her.
- Oh Darnley. As awful as it was to leave his infant son IN THE WOODS , I still feel sorry for the guy. He knew something was terribly wrong with him.
- NGL, I cheered a little bit when Mary told Bothwell to kill her husband. Unfortunately, Darnley was already her undoing.
- Darnley surviving the explosion and Bothwell having to kill Darnley with his bare hands.
- It was so painful seeing Mary ripped apart from her son again.

France
- I have to admit... I felt a little sorry Nicole.
- Catherine was pretty masterful at bringing her boys back together again. Those stupid, ungrateful boys mocking their mother, though. The witch was right... neither of them could hold a candle to Catherine's "Golden Child" Francis. A better man, and a better king than they could ever be.
- WTH was that crazy witch threesome with Catcisse!! I saw the spoilers so I knew it was coming...but I still don't quite know what was happening. Catcisse were both drugged and Narcisse's child was the price for freeing them from the darkness? The witch invited the devil into the threesome and Catherine tried to kill her - but she wouldn't die??? At least parts of it were pretty hot.
- Sad that we only got to meet Margo for a minute. Interesting that she was key to Catherine's survival.
- Sad that Luc left and we never got to see if he and Claude could work things out.
- In general, we really got no closure on French Court, and it's super disappointing. It was clear that their storyline was only meant to be a set up for Season 5. Hate that they ended a magnificent character like Catherine de Medici like that.
- No problem that fan fiction can't fix????????

England
- Elizabeth's speech to the Archduke and then her rallying her troops dressed in armor. Rachel rocked it.
- Lizzy's anger management issues, murdering Jane. Honestly, I didn't feel sorry for the servant. She betrayed Elizabeth because of things that she didn't even do!

FLASHFORWARD
- I thought the whole thing was very well done. The scene where James visits Elizabeth. LOVED that we got to see "Golden Age" Lizzy with the awesome costume and pale skin. Elizabeth's speech convincing Mary's son to abandon her got me really emotional. Rachel was brilliant!
- The execution itself was so well done. The emotion on Ade's face. I'm grateful they didn't show any of the gory details. Part of me wishes they could have incorporated the phrase, "In my end lies my beginning" - or perhaps her Ode to France. But overall, I thought it packed the right emotional punch. Even if Adelaide still looked really young.
- I loved the beautiful montage at the end, but... I suppose I would have preferred that they use that time to give us a little more closure on a few more characters and storylines. Perhaps with a voiceover reading a letter describing what happened to them.
- FRARY REUNION IN THE AFTERLIFE!!!!!!! Ok...So tbh, this was the only thing I needed and it was EVERYTHING. I was so nervous that I would be disappointed, but it exceeded all of my expectations. I'm so happy, grateful and relieved. They are together now - fully united and at peace. Now we have more Frary kisses, Frary quotes, and Frary parallels to fangirl over.

Unfortunately, this is the most stupid and illogical final that I saw. I was disappointed in the show. In addition to the final of Mary. But the scene of the execution of Mary did not cause me any emotion. In contrast to the scenes of death of Lola and Francis. But thanks Reign for all emotions and amazing cast and crew.

I've seen a lot of series finales and I got to say that as much as I loved the show, its ups and downs, this finale was so terribly unsatisfying. French court is a state of wtf, England is meh, the only story that they managed to rush to a conclusion was the death of Mary and even in that the only satisfying part was just Mary dying and reuniting with Francis, they did nothing to tie up any other parts of that, especially the glaring hole of what the heck was Bash's promise to be there for her when she really needs it? Why even have him promise if they couldn't even deliver. I mean, pretty sure this moment is when she needs him the most and where is he, napping in the woods on a sabbatical?

It's just so frustrating for a show that had so much potential to end just really meh, the only satisfaction was Mary and Francis reuniting and if that's all the show can deliver on then it's just really badly written finale.

The flashback montage honestly is just bitter, reminding me of all the potential that this show could have been but in the end wasn't.
