Cece, that's great but it also sounds like a lot of work. I'm sure you can do it though.

Chris, have a great week ahead.

I really like change so it'll be great. And in this role, it is ever changing. I'd also be connecting more with all the teachers. I think it'll be a fun new experience!

A new challenge is always rewarding, Cece.

I put in a two weeks notice at this summer job. It's getting to be a little too much. So many students and no help makes unhappy teachers. Two people from management just walked out last week. The co-director of the childcare place didn't take the news too well, asked if I could do half days and told me they don't have a replacement for me. She said she'll talk to the director about it, but my co-workers told me to just go ahead and put in my two weeks without worrying about them. Also I have a graduate class that starts in July and some conferences/professional development lined up for my regular teaching job, so going to focus on those. I want to get my ESL certification as well. Also with the potential opportunity to be a resource teacher, I need to have my schedule free. I should know these next few weeks if they will move me to that new position. I'm also getting a paycheck through the summer from my regular teaching job anyway, so this summer gig was extra spending money. It's not worth it though and I do really need a break to feel more refreshed come August! I feel bad to have to do that, but I need my sanity back. Schools are way more structured during the school year so they are wilder here as it is the summer. And they have no discipline in place, don't want us to give them consequences for behaviors. Some of these kids have no manners...

ETA: Part of the reason for my leave is because my breaks were all over the place. I didn't get a lunch break until 2 PM or later on some days. And for how much I work, I should get an hour and a half lunch break, but often they come tell us because we're short staffed, we can only take a 30-minute break...

That must be hard for you, Cece. I can get being overworked. I was back when I was your age. It's all about time management now plus with a staff and people to order around, I have less work to do nowadays. I only "feel" the job every month end because it gets crazy.

I woke up today thinking it was already Thursday.

Cece - sounds like they like to take advantage of their staff. I don't blame you for giving notice. And at least you've given them notice, not just walked out.

Lindsay - you're wishing the week away.

has been a bit temperamental for me, but apparently Jerry's been doing some name changes, so that explains it.

Cece, it does sound like they take advantage of their staff. Good for you for standing up for yourself and your needs. Giving them 2 weeks is the professional and responsible thing to do, which you did. Now you should spend your energy focusing on your other endeavors.

Childcare is privately owned and that's primarily the issue. They are so consumed with profit that they pay their staff very little. More and more childcare facilities are increasingly expensive. Yet, the staff gets paid so little. Even their full-time staff. So where does all the money go I wonder? I'm fortunate to have a full-time job in a public school. But as I've said from the beginning, for me personally, it was never about the money. I just didn't want to stay home all day long, ha. However, I also didn't ask to have a job that overworks us. I get a paycheck every month anyway, even if I don't work during the summer months. They really need to hire more people and have at least two staff per classroom. Of course that would require them to pay for more staff. We get paid bi-weekly and after two weeks of summer camp, and seeing how much overtime we all got, they've started giving us less hours already. By the end of the day, they start combining classes, as long as they are within ratio per teacher. Also means the closing teacher is stuck with possibly up to 26 children. That's fine with me but some people do need the hours to support themselves/their families. I am thrilled to get to go home early though!

Um, that sounds like its disorganized chaos there! And frustrating when its not "real school" so there is no discipline in place really! Kids do act more disrespectful these days than I ever thought before I started working in schools. I was never a kid to make waves so it always surprises me how a lot of little ones are so non-intimidated to be cheeky to adults and stuff! Not all are, but the ones I see, I'm like for real????

Well, I'm wrapping things up at work, final two weeks here and then 2 Mondays in July. Packing up stuff, doing new book processing so they are ready for next year!! Its kind of fun!

I feel like I'm quiet lately but I'm feeling in the background so I don't want to sounding annoying or fussy. But its a little hard to be "fun". So if I'm quiet, I'm not like going anywhere or ignoring anyone.

Not just disrespect, but also entitlement. I've had to get on some of mine for their impatience at lunchtime. There is just one of me and over 20 of you. They are older kids so they should know manners by now, but my verbal preschoolers have better manners than some of them. Others have told me it is partly because we live in a 'well off' area and not just anyone can afford to enroll their child in our programs. There are kids who brag to each other about what kind of cars their parents drive and the gifts they got for Christmas/birthdays. But like you said, Leanne, it's not all of them. That's where good parenting comes into play.

Yay to almost being done, Leanne!!

Cece, well that sucks. You're right, they have to hire more people otherwise the rest of you will feel overworked.

Leanne, good luck on the final 2 weeks.

Weather bureau already prepping us for typhoon season which officially starts next month. UGH. Endless rain, storms and traffic ahoy!

That sounds like a nightmare. Are they warning you because it may start sooner that normal?

Typhoons sound scary. Like how tornados freak me out that I have frequent dreams/nightmares about them!

Just had an amusing moment while the X-Files is on my tv. My brother looks a lot like David Duchovny aka Mulder, ever since he was a teenager, even more so that he's now around the age of grown Mulder on the show. So I'm watching the show and then my brother came over and he's standing in my room and I'm like going back and forth seeing on screen and real life thinking well, this is weird. I don't often see both simultaneously

I gotta keep up my energy for the final stretch!

Hang in there, Cece!

Unfortunatley, that's not just true of young children. Especially entitlement. A lot of people seem to feel that they deserve things, whether or not they've actually worked towards earning them.

Lindsay - hopefully you'll have a mild typhoon season this year.

Lizzy - how is your week going?

Leanne - sounds like quite the moment.

I think I'll be off to an airshow this afternoon.
